I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with your cat getting a UTI from feeding a Weight Control food. I've done this 2 times now, different brands & both times she's ended up with issues after. The next thing I will do is compare both labels & see what the similarities are.

I guess I'm just going to have a fat cat!

Hi. Were the weight control foods dry or wet? If dry, does/has she eaten other non-weight control foods that are wet? Her bladder may not be flushed out as well with the dry food, which can cause bacterial build up and lead to a UTI. The extra moisture in wet food helps to keep the bladder flushed out better.

A lot of wet foods are really lower in carbs/fats that many dry foods, probably also true even if the dry food is labeled weight control. If your cat is put on a full wet diet, it may be enough to help her lose weight.

I honestly don't know what ingredients would prompt a UTI, but looking at the labels and comparing them is a good idea.

Wet. I don't feed dry. I'm wondering if it's a stabilizer or other filler. I checked her ph with the first one & it was in the alkaline category so those foods obviously change their ph.

I totally agree that putting your furry friend on an all wet, low carb diet should help with both issues... weight loss and UTI prevention. I think some of the weight control foods are actually higher in carbs than "regular" foods!

I had a girl on weight control food and it was horrible for her. I went against my vet and switched her to a grain free, all meat food and went to scheduled feedings and she did great and slimmed down.
