Weaning and litter training

Hello everyone, my kitten is 4 weeks old today, at what stage do we start litter training it and introducing it to food ? We have tried a kitten food from 4 weeks old up to 12 months he licked it a few times but when we put him in the litter box he just started playing in it. He’s mum still stimulates him before and after feeding. Also what is the best litter to use ? I know it’s non clumping and we’ve got that but he’s tried eating it
