I have often had the same thing happen, i firmly believe it is our little ones trying to keep us distracted from missing them. It just seemsweird that we haven't had a new face show up for months or years, then when one passes, or shortly before, one does!

3 months after Simon died in 2014 we got Stanley. 3 months after Sebastian died in 2015 we got Sylvester, and I know for me it was exactly the reason that you said, it was a distraction for me mentally and helped me get over the loss.

I had posted a few weeks ago on here that I was thinking about taking Sylvester's sister cat in, they had to put his and her father down a few weeks ago and I was wondering on there if it would be a good idea or not. They had offered her to me when I took Sylvester years ago but they said she was very close with the father cat so I didn't want to break that up, and now that he's gone she cries at the door, thinking he is outside, and that just breaks our hearts to hear that. I started to wonder about her, and then yesterday Deb told me about this one, how she was talking to it and it's cute little face was just staring up at her, and how it looked like a combination of Sugar and Sassy which like I said reminded me of how Sylvester is exactly Simon and Sebastian combined, so we'll just have to let it play out the way that it is going to. When they are right in your yard it is pretty hard to ignore them, and then you start to become concerned about them, Deb said we don't want to put food out because then we'll have 500 cats coming around like we did years ago, but I told her if she sees it take some food out, see if she/he eats it, then bring the food or plate back inside, work on it slowly.

We'll see how it goes....

I know there are MANY on here who have been so very helpful over the years to us and lately mostly about our old friend Simba who at best guess was 23 years old which was amazing, but no amount of time would have been enough. I had him at the vet on Friday morning, he started making weird breathing noises somewhat to how he did in May when we had our first heat wave with high humidity, and as I have said 100 times he was not one that we could easily get to a vet, years ago he was drooling and I thought he was dying back then but they said it was probably his teeth, we had to get an experienced woman from the local Cat Shack to net him with my help, he was the sweetest cat, everyone's friend, always bonking into them, but to try to put him into a carrier you took your life into your hands! She said "Les, I hope that I never have to do that again", so we were reluctant to take him but in May he was very congested and wasn't eating so I knew I HAD to take him in, they gave him a Convenia shot as we couldn't pill him, he was better but 8 days later his fur fell out around that shot spot, but it did grow back. So this time I said maybe that isn't the best treatment for him, we tried Amoxicillin in a syringe and it was a DISASTER, but last night Deb mixed it with some gravy food and he ate it. But he was so thin, he only weighed about 5 pounds, we are sure his thyroid was off but we didn't want to put him through getting blood tests and trying to med him, our vet said "let him live his life out the way he wants to" and at that age we agreed, but he was still spry and eating and drinking, using the litter box, we knew the day would come but we knew he was still interested in life and eating, oh how he loved baked chicken and KFC chicken and hamburger and turkey burgers and cheese along with his wet and dry foods, when he slowed down eating awhile ago we gave him whatever he wanted and he loved all of that so much plus he loved treats! But he wasn't eating as much the last few days, we thought it was because of the antibiotic but he seemed to get really worse over night, he was having trouble standing, for awhile now he would have to slowly sit down and then lay down, he started to go to the water bowl and just stare, he just looked tired even though he STILL to this morning would come into the kitchen to see what we would give him to eat, this morning we gave him everything, he only ate a little bit, but it was very clear that the dreaded time had come to make the decision to put him down so he could be "free" again. We called the vet and went in this morning, we said our "solongs", it is not goodbye but rather "solong" because we WILL see each other again one day, when we were ready they injected him, the vet said "he might move a little bit" because he STILL had that spirit and some spunk, he lifted his head and looked at Debbie, put his head down and passed peacefully, the fight is over, he is free and whole again, he can hear and see again, he has teeth again, he has no more pain, can eat anything again and he is with his girlfriend Sabrina and her brothers Slim and Skipper and all of the others that have passed before him, he is wonderful right now, and we told him that he would be, and told him me and mommy and the rest here will be too, he is free again and just fine...

He came from right in our backyard, about 16 years ago he just showed up on an Easter morning, crying, skinny, looking for food, his ribs were showing and he ran low to the ground. I told Deb "that's a very sick cat" but I thankfully was very wrong. He was the last cat that we took in from outside, and we kept him overnight in a big dog cage in the garage until we could get him to the vet the next day. We put newspaper and food and water in the cage and the next day the newspaper was all ripped up! We got him checked out at the vet and I STILL remember them saying "maybe someday he'll be a good indoor cat" because how wild he would get, and thankfully they also were wrong, he was the BEST indoor cat, so so friendly and sweet, bonking the rest, rubbing into Sylvester's fur on his neck, just everyone's friend. We adopted out some of the outdoor cats years ago and I was going to put him into the carrier for these people to take and he mule kicked me so hard he got free and I said "I guess you're not going?!" and I am SO GLAD that he did, that he eventually came inside with us, it would've been a travesty for us not to have had and enjoyed him all these years.

THANK YOU to all of you who have helped us with advice for him as well as the others, we did the best that we could for him and obviously it worked well and he did the best that he could to live 23 years, but it is going to be a HUGE adjustment to him not being in the kitchen all the time and pushing for food, but his spirit will be with us for eternity as well as all those who have passed before him.

We had to put Slim down at this same vet right before Christmas. We had to suddenly put Stanley down on Easter, same vet. My father passed away 7/11, now Simba, all within 3 month time spans of each other. This is very similar to us losing my dad, in many ways, and I said to the vet "this is almost harder for me than losing my dad" and she said "that's because you had to make the decision" and she is right, but we knew it was time to make that decision today...

WE LOVE YOU SIMBA THE LION KING...YOU HAVE FUN NOW AND BE HAPPY AND HEALTHY AND FREE AGAIN WITH ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS....WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN SOMEDAY!!!!!! :gingercat: :rbheart: :hugs:

Had 22 year old Simba at the vet this morning
The same bad day came for my male cat Stewie he was one of a kind peacefully he passed at home after the best care at Madison Veterinary Specialists. His appetite was not there the last thing he ate was a green olive his favorite trying tuna wet food and his olives close by before I wrapped him up before his cremation his sidekick Gia was present I asked her if she wanted to say goodbye she approached him smelled him and went for the tuna. He was very close and tough for me but always great memories. Hope this helped!!’

The other day we got a sympathy card from the vet, signed by all of them there, such nice words. It was nice but it brought up some pain as it will.

Also, the other night Deb had the pack of cheese out, and there was still a piece on there that had little sections ripped off it that I gave to Simba. That made me cry as well as it did Deb, she said "I couldn't eat it, and I didn't want to throw it away" but I said "I'll eat it, I'm sure Simba would want me to eat it" so I did, but that was tough too.

We have our bad moments and then we are healing, it will take time we know and it's only been 10 days. My IBS is giving me issues at times, and I know it is from the emotional stress we are under, but I'm trying my best to handle it.

You completed his circle of life. I’m sorry for your loss. He’s romping through heaven, watching over you. As Mufasa says in the movie- the ones we love will always be with us.
