I just bought some foaming waterless shampoo for my cats, my question is does it really help to "clean" them or is it just a fancy perfume? Also is it safe? I know as soon as I use it my cats will start to groom themselves (heaven forbid they smell like flowers, yuck lol) I'm just curious if it is safe for them to lick this stuff?

Waterless Shampoo

Most cats never need washing. A few have skin problems or an exceptionally greasy coat and benefit from the very occasional bath. What are you wanting to achieve from bathing your cat?
What is the product you're using?
I agree with OrientalSlave, I wouldn't bathe a cat "just because", but if you do have a reason to, perhaps you could try Earthbath Hypo-allergenic Grooming Foam. It's fragrance free. I use it occasionally (like maybe every 3-4 months) on my 19 yr old who isn't as terribly fastidious with his personal hygiene as he used to be. My other cats never need "bathing" (waterless or otherwise).
My cats were dirty with who-knows-what from outside and that waterless stuff proved worthless.

You're better off giving them a proper bath, since they'll get wet from the foaming shampoo anyway. I can only assume it's safe, I have the Bio-Groom one here for spot cleaning but it leaves the coat in terrible condition, usually I use Bio-Groom shampoo's when bathing the cats but mine have been used to it from a young age (show cats)
I'm really loath to put stuff on cats' coats.. I'd much prefer to bathe mine in a very pure product, and rinse well.

The brand is "Oster". I bought it because I have a long haired cat who has injured hips, who has to stay confined for four weeks and can't use a litter box. So I got it as a back up plan for big messes, but so far fragrance free baby wipes or a warm rag have been enough.
I can't seem to find a list of ingredients for this online anywhere. The fact that it has a fragrance means it probably isn't a good choice for cats though. The Earthbath ingredients are totally safe if a cat decides to groom himself afterwards, but because it's fragrance-free, the inclination to do so isn't as strong. They also make wipes.

If I had a cat with those problems I think I'd be inclined to keep the bits of coat that might get messy clipped, so they are less likely to get dirty and far easier to clean.
