Can anyone recommend a cat water fountain that my cat can’t knock over 😅 I’d really like one to just keep water flowing but he’s obsessed with scooping the water out or trying to knock it over entirely. The first me was one of those ones with a battery and he completely knocked it over (and nearly half a gallon of water) in less than 5 minutes. This new one I have is like a dog one, with the big container on top that refills the little metal bowl underneath, and he hasn’t knocked it over but he just continually scoops water out of it until there is a giant mess.

Am I doomed to refill a small metal tin for water or does anyone have any suggestions?!

I have a Veken stainless fountain (Amazon...$29.99) and it has a square base. Weighs a good 6-7lbs when full. Would be impressive if they knocked it over, and I have a few that can tip large stainless bowls no problem.

I have a Drinkwell ceramic fountain with flowing water (I think the style is Avalon), and it's quite heavy. I doubt that a cat could push it over when it's full of water.

Since you have a couple of issues going here, you might consider getting a lunch/food tray to put under the fountain so that when he scoops, the water doesn't travel very far.

The third thing, however, is that he's introducing bacteria to the water with his paw(s), and frequent sanitizing will be necessary so that he doesn't end up with dental or other issues. Hydrogen peroxide can be a good product, I use it for my hummingbird feeders. Spray, light scrub and rinse, and air dry.

I use the Drinkwell Ceramic fountains

They are heavy so I haven't had any cat knock them over and they don't seem interested in pawing all the water out like they do with the gravity fed auto water bowls. I also use a cheap plastic serving tray underneath one to help contain any water they do manage to splash out since they do still paw at it sometimes, especially if something lands in the water.

Another option is to try one of the fountains that hooks up to your sink, like the AquaPurr one AquaPurr | The only fountain you never clean. No Filters. No Cleaning that way there is no bowl of water for them to paw at.

I have a couple pagoda's. They are similar to the Avalon.

Charlie was a similar menace and it's been fine since I added them.

It's easy to take apart and clean - unlike some others I have had that were a total chore - and then some. I really like them.

BTW that aquapurr looks genius!

I had a catit like this. My P.I.T.A. cat Austin gets the top lid part in his teeth and pulls it off.

My vet recommended this one. So far so good. I see they have a wireless model, I am thinking of getting one of thse. It runs on battery and is rechargeable. This one is PETLIBRO Cat Water Fountain $31.99 on Amazon.

I have a Pet safe Drinkwell (168 oz) water fountain with an aluminum tray underneath for any water that may spill! One cat likes to dip his paws in it, and lick his paws! It has a plastic tank that holds about a gallon and the fountain holds about a gallon! Thats over 16 lbs! It can last 9 to 11 days depending on the weather. hot or cold! They drink a lot more water from the fountain then they ever did from bowls! That is important to keep those old kidneys hydrated! .................good luck!

We're on our second Drinkwell basic fountain, which I have an IKEA plastic tray underneath. Any spillage is contained in the tray, and no one has ever knocked the fountain over because it has a wide base.

I wish I could help. My cat Bree kept unplugging our water fountains, ruining it for everyone. And Daisy had kidney problems. She loved the water fountains.

We have the Cat-It Flower water fountain. Our previous 4 cats all used it, and we never had a problem with it getting knocked over. I had modified it by adding a piece of PVC pipe to raise flower portion so that the water flowed down with a longer stream (to mimic their habit of drinking from the kitchen faucet).

I have introduced the water fountain to our 4 new kittens. At first they had to stand with their front feet on the fountain to reach the water. Now they are big enough that they don't have to do that. These 4 guys play like maniacs and crash into everything. They haven't knocked over the water fountain. I do try to keep it quite full of water to give it more weight and stability.

OMG I have no recommendations but this has just reminded me so much of my departed and much missed boy Radar, we actually won a cat fountain at a cat show raffle (we weren't showing, just there as spectators) and he managed to break it within 24 hours !!!!! by basically getting a load of tissues and toilet paper and putting it in the bowl and after a couple of hours of this, the pump clogged up with bits of paper and started making very worrying noises.

That is what killed the fountain, but he did dunk other stuff in there too before that, he grabbed my husband's favourite baseball cap and put it in the bowl and just sat watching water flow over it and occasionally poking the cap with his paw. My husband was horrified (but loved Radar all the more for it)

I miss that cat, he was one of a kind :D
