I originally posted this message in my Facebook stomatitis forum but I felt I needed to share it here!!! The machines are either not being cleaned between different food brands OR the plant mistakenly packed another brand in Hound and Gatos' Rabbit formula cans! My cat is now on Prednisolone after having an allergic reaction... The food is the most likely suspect after 4 cans were fed from this batch. My husband fed the first 4 cans and may not have taken notice of the carrots.

Warning about Hound and Gatos Rabbit dated Best By 10-2021! Carrots in food and possible protein contaminants. (Detailed post for info)

About 5 days ago Graysan had a small pink rubbed spot on the right side of his lip that tends to indicate that he had an allergic response to something. He was doing fine, we were treating it with Vetericyn and it looked like it was healing. Suddenly on Tuesday, Sept 18, he ate and an hour later he tore at the right side of his mouth. When I looked at it this time it looked slightly puffed. I immediately soft collared him and called his specialist to be safe who said it did not sound like it was tied to the stomatitis and to go to his regular Vet. So we have an appointment today Wednesday, Sept 19 with his old Vet that left the other practice for evaluation. (Glad we found him... And he is closer to us...)

Later that afternoon I opened a can of Hound and Gatos Rabbit and it was full of carrots!!! I called immediately and the CSR was shocked. While we were on the phone I sent her several pics including these. Then she asked me to open another can from the same batch and at first I did not see carrots but as I dissected I found two small 1 cm pieces. If you weren't looking for them you would not see them! She was like,"What food is in our cans? NONE of our formulas have carrots!" This is the same thing that happened to us with Nature's Variety LID and one of the reasons (besides also finding a piece of blue rubber glove) we stopped feeding their formulas! The machines are not being cleaned in between different foods!!

So if your cat is allergic to chicken, turkey, beef, etc they might accidentally be exposed to it!!! She said they have no idea if that is even their food!!! (@_@) She told me she would send me a case of Duck because it is processed at a different plant and they would look immediately into this because this damages their reputation and all that they stand for. Each can of their food is supposed to have one protein with agar agar, salmon oil, vitamins and minerals but nothing else!!!

And she told me to write her today and send the Doctor's report so they know Graysan is alright. I am returning the case to my pet food boutique and possibly sending the can with carrots to H&G for evaluation. (It is in my freezer)

What is going on with these food companies?!?!? I am so disappointed in Hound and Gatos!!! I am also feeding Rawz and I was questioning if their food was causing issues with my other cat because he suddenly doesn't want to eat it!!! It is hard to find foods for cats with allergies but this is scary!!! I will also post this message in the Cat Allergy group as well!!! But I know many stomatitis cats also battle allergies so I thought I would post this as an alert!"

OMG, this is very upsetting! Thank you for letting us know about it. Another reason for making your own, I guess. But that scares me too, because I used to and was terrified that I wouldn't get everything nutritionally balanced. (that's just me though...I don't trust myself enough)

Scary! Insane, I was considering this brand because it was boujee and epic but it's wild to see that despite that - they can suck as well. Yikes.
