My cat Maggie- acid reflux
My cat Peaches-sensitive tummy. Some mornings she seems lethargic and throws up her food so I need to give her something so she feels better. I just got probiotics I bought online. I will give 1/2 capsul her last meal. She only eats wet, zero allergens. I will know in a few days if this works. Maggie does not feel sick which is why I think it's just acid reflux. The probiotic might help. Fingers crossed!

Watch for weight loss despite no changes in appetite or eating. Need had a similar problem with vomiting in our 10+ year old cat. He started with vomiting a green/yellow bile every few days. The vet thought it was allergies so we switched to the RC speciality food. But a few month in his weight started dropping some and vomiting increased to daily (I tracked both numbers daily once my gut started saying something is wrong). We ended up taking him to a second vet who performed a ton of blood work and found out it was more serious than allergies. I think it was the increase in frequency and decrease in weight that trigged my instinct. The weight decrease was not a lot so tracking helped.

Hi! What do you do for Maggie's reflux? Wondering if that's what Otto has, as he's fine before and after...

Vetriscience probiotic treats seemed to work but I do not like giving dry food every day. Last night I started using vetriscience probiotic capsuls. If that doesn't work I will use pepcid ac. Its pills I crush and put in their food or mouth. You will need a pill cutter that also crushes. Only 1/4 pill 10m. Email your vet first.

ameliashuman ameliashuman what issue did your cat end up having, if you don't mind me asking? Maggie has lost a small amount of weight but the vet said it was negligible (maybe 50g?). This morning she also had a weird poop - mostly good stool, then a sort of flat poop at the end of the segment.

We're going in for more bloodwork tomorrow.

In addition to chronic kidney disease he likely had lymphoma. We decided to forgo the biopsy for diagnosis since based on our assessment of Neil's particular circumstance and our decision to focus on comfort care. He went from 13 pounds to about 9 pounds and was vomiting daily by the time we figured out something was very wrong.

So Maggie's blood work came back totally fine - no kidney/liver/pancreas problems, and no abnormal cell count that would indicate infection. Her physical exam was good too, no obstructions that they could tell. The vet is going to call the internal medicine specialists at the lab to see if they have any ideas, but right now it seems like it could be a diet issue (which would be weird, given that she's on a gastro one already) or some anatomy problem. I'd rather not go down the rabbit hole of ultrasounds and xrays if I don't have to, but I guess we'll see.

He hasn't mentioned hairballs at all again, so I guess that ship has sailed?

Feeling a bit lost - part of me is relieved that nothing is seriously wrong with her organs, but not having answers is stressful.
Hi- I am glad that Maggies blood work is ok. I think an internal medicine vet would be a great idea. My boy has IBD and I would want to have that ruled out in a cat that has frequent bouts of vomiting. My boy had more constipation than diarrhea but IBD cats can have one or the other. I hope you can get some answers. But right now you know her major organs are functioning well so that is a relief. Kidney disease , pancreatitis or liver problems could have GI symptoms but fortunately that isn’t the case. Best wishes-I know how upsetting this is, particularly in these times of the virus.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm finding it really upsetting. Every time she goes four or five days without an episode I get a bit optimistic, and then totally crushed when she vomits again. I also spend all day at home with her given the virus situation, so it's easy to worry.

Also due to the virus, the vet I've been working with was unfortunately laid off. I am expecting to hear from whoever is taking over her case tomorrow with the latest round of blood test results, which I think was the recommendation of the internal medicine vet. I think they're looking for IBD markers or other immunodeficiency signs? So we'll see. Next will be feline leukemia if those come back healthy.

And thanks for the perspective - the good news from the first blood tests was overshadowed by my worry at not having answers, but it is good news.

A bit down tonight as she was sick this evening. It kills me to see her unwell.

Hi! How is your cat? Have you gotten any answers?

My cat has been vomiting clear bile every few days (on the 5th, 8th and today) but otherwise seems fine. Taking him to the vet tomorrow.

Hi K Kat. still no answers unfortunately - her last blood test showed some mildly high folate levels, which apparently means her gut bacteria is a bit off. Her vomiting has decreased in frequency but hasn't gone away. I suspect I will give a diet change a try before I go down the path of more tests.

How's your cat doing? What did the vet say?
