Vestibular disease worries

Could it be a permanent thing? I'm going to try another vet. I had vertigo today and I was told congestion that caused my ears fluid but they didn't give me something for my ears but I got nausea medication. Seems I was mistreated like my cat.

I got a limit raise on my care credit so maybe it wont be costly I hope. Or maybe they will treat her well

I forgot to say, I hope it will not be a permanent thing for her.

I got a possible bad news. My cat could possibly have a brain tumor. If I see a specialist I could only afford for an exam. But 3000 to 10k to treat it it's impossible.

Who knows when it will get worse but I'm going to spend a lot of time with her

Ask about steroids. That can sometimes prolong a good quality of life by shrinking the suspected tumor.

An MRI will show a tumor. OK great, so you know it’s a tumor.That does nothing for your cat. And treatment? I’m sorry but there really isn’t anything that is going to treat a brain tumor in a cat. There are no successful brain surgeries done on cats that I am aware of. They couldn’t treat with chemo until they knew what kind of tumor it is and they can’t know without a biopsy. So, please do not feel that financial constraints are preventing your cat from getting better.

I suppose an MEI would show if there was a problem, not cancer, in the middle ear.

Have they tested her for Cryptococcus? It is a blood test.

Wouldn't steroids damage the liver? I think I was told that by the other vet. Cryptoccus? I'll see on that what is MEI

Cryptococcus is a fungus that can pass the blood brain barrier and cause neurological issues. It is supposedly obtained by bird droppings and soil, but I have seen indoor cats get it.

Skull films on cats are often not useful and the cat has to be anesthetized in order to take them.

I'm hoping they give me predisone or something. Seeing a specialist is hard since I don't drive and it's I think 1 hour or 2 hrs away in Dallas

So, please do not feel that financial constraints are preventing your cat from getting better.

This is absolutely true. As S silent meowlook has explained, the road forward with this is fraught with all kinds of stumbling blocks even if you did have the money or the inclination to spend it on this.

Ask directly for pred and if it is refused ask for an explanation as to why.

I haven't got a call back. But I do hope they give her predisone. I think it could help with appetite. I told them sometimes her appetite is off and on.

Why do you think she has a brain tumor? If she hasn’t had a scan no one can know that for sure. I’m not sure if an x-ray will show that but an x-ray of one of my outdoor cats showed that she had metastasized oral cancer that spread to the bone in her face. She was sedated when she had the xray, but she was a non-touchable cat.

I hope they give you some pred so you can see if it helps, and they can figure out what is causing this. Hugs

You can get an uber etc. I did that to get Zena to the er because my car was in repair.

I was nervous about that too, but that was the only way to get Xena there and I wasn’t gonna not take him somewhere. Fortunately they were OK but I did not take the first two people who showed up because the hospitals kept calling me and saying, they couldn’t treat a blood clot which I thought he might have at that time. so I had to keep changing the hospital and the first one just drove away after saying he would wait.

The second one was creepy because I got in and I couldn’t see to put the seatbelt in place so I asked him to turn the light on and he didn’t even speak English…and then he said something like oh it’s OK , so I said no, I am not going anywhere with him. Lol

3 rd one turned out to be a cat lover, and was English speaking. The man who took me home was very nice. He said not to worry about it because they have the license plate of everybody who is driving for Uber which they text you in advance to identify who should be picking you up, and they screen people carefully now after all of the complaints.

I had forgotten about all of the sa reports fortunately. But he said when I mentioned that I was nervous also, that Uber people driving had been assaulted and 1 was actually murdered when he delivered food. Because they thought that he would have money, but they don’t have any money on them, they get paid through an app online.

That one had a protective screen up like in a taxi. I was reading a site about how to be safe in an Uber… they had long list of things to do.

One was to always ride in the backseat. When you get in check to make sure you can unlock the door, get an app that will let your friends and family know where you are… And there’s a special app called Astor I think which will let you call 911 without making a phone call if you have to and it tracks you too.
Also if you can, bring someone with you.
They were both very nice and they were concerned about Xena. But if you don’t wanna do it, hopefully you can get a friend or a neighbor etc. to drive you there who is trustworthy.

I'm still terrified and not know if I'll be unlucky. It's the cost though as well to get an Uber. My mom went with me to animal er once and it was about 40 dollars back and forth that's about 80 dollars. Since it's far it could cost 80-90 dollars to get there and back it would suck if I went there and find out I would not afford the treatment
