R Rdanes you also said that her mouth was very painful, is that right? Maybe it just hurts her too much to chew or swallow.

Sometimes just getting the taste of food into her will encourage her to eat. Try offering her the water from a can of unsalted human grade tuna, or try boiling some chicken and offering her some of the cooled water. Syringe feeding worked with a couple of my cats when they were sick. Even if you can just get a tiny bit of diluted cat food into them it helps.

You can get high calorie gels for cats. Hills A/D canned is soft enough to syringe feed and is very good for them too.

Some of my feral boys don`t tolerate handling, but when they are sick they are too weak to put up much of a fight. What I did was wrap them in a towel. put them on the floor and kneel over them with them between my legs. They can`t back away from you and it`s possible to syringe a little bit into them. Even just 5 or 10 ml every hour or so makes a difference. By the time they are strong enough to fight you off you know they are on the mend.

This will unfortunately be my last update on Midnight.
She has been peacefully put to rest today.
I brought her to a different vet this morning after she still would not eat and the steroids hadn't helped.
It turns out that the last two vets didn't get her diagnoses correct at all.
Her gums had receded and the root was showing, and she had a giant ulcer on her tongue. Her temperature was dangerously low, which I don't believe anyone at the other office even checked. They ran her blood work and she was in kidney failure and her organs were shutting down. I was told that her numbers were so bad that they were too high for the device to even read them. She was very very anemic. No mention of lymphoma. The kidney failure is the suspected reason for the vomiting and her not wanting to eat. There was nothing more that I could have done for her. The vet said that she should have passed away already and she was amazed that she was still alive. She was beyond saving.

I'm feeling a lot of emotions right now. I had no idea I could fall so deeply in love with a little kitty in such a few days and I am taking this loss very hard.
I am also feeling very terrible for putting her through all of the vet appointments, forcing her to take meds and syringe feeding when I should have just been giving her love and letting her have some peace before she passed. I feel guilty but I know that I shouldn't. I wanted to fight to save her and I did fight until the end.
She spent every night with me sleeping on my pillow. She followed me around the house even though she was in such bad shape. She was always purring and asking to be cuddled and loved on. It was apparent that she was very sick, but she seemed like she really wanted to live. I am grateful that I got to show her the love that she had never seen before in her short life.

Thank you to everyone for supporting me and giving me advice etc. It really means a lot to me.

Unfortunately our little girl is not doing so great. I thought she was improving, but I woke up to her vomiting all over my bed last night. She also had diarrhea.

She drank a bunch of water afterwards but has not eaten anything yet. She skipped her breakfast. I know that you give dogs rice and hamburger meat when they are sick. Is there a similar protocol for cats?

Also, she has a lot of discharge from her nose still. Does anyone know when I should be expecting improvements with her URI? She did get an antibiotic shot at the vet.
I am so sorry to read this.

I am so very, very sad to hear your news. You did all the right things in fighting for her and at the end of her life she knew love and that someone truly cared.

I am so sorry to read this. Please try to remember and console yourself with the knowledge that you did everything possible for her and you gave her a home. Those few days with you were heaven to her and she knew that someone cared and protected her. She ate some food, had a good appetite, and used the litter box. She also followed you around because she finally had her human.

In the long run, I don't think that anything was made worse by those other two vets. If she was in or entering end stage kidney failure, it is not possible to reverse it and while they did nothing to help, they probably did not change or worsen anything as that was already out of their power. The fact that they gave subQ fluids, tested for parasites, and gave a shot for what they believed was a URI is all very standard and they did note that something was going on in her mouth, stomatitis or not. Even if they were not that competent, none of that hurt her as her kidneys had begun to fail before you found her. The little that they did seems as if it gave her a few days of respite so that she could enjoy her brief life.

These situations are heartbreaking; please remember that we are here for you. You and your family were heroes for what you did to help her.

The horrible condition she was in and all of the suffering that she endured just broke my heart. I've been crying all day.
She climbed into my bed and curled up against me on the first night that she was with me and I knew that she was special.
I think that when you spend a lot of time with animals there is always "the one", and she was mine.
Thank you for the reassurance and kindness. ❤

Thank you. That's all that I wanted for her after the life that she had.

I`m so sorry to hear this.

:hugs:

I lost two of my cats to kidney disease at the start of this year. There really is very little you can do about it. Even knowing that their kidneys are starting to fail, giving them medication and a special diet, you`re only able to prolong their lives by a little bit. I*m glad to hear Midnight was able to pass peacefully.

You made such a huge difference to her life. It doesn`t bear thinking about what her final days would have been like if you hadn`t saved her. Thank you for showing her the love she deserved.

Rest in peace Midnight.

I'm sorry to hear about your cats. I cannot imagine losing two. I am in pieces and I only had Midnight for a very short time.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Her presence is already greatly missed around here. ❤

I am crying reading this. You saved her, even if it was only for a short while.
Thank you, i really tried my best. I've been crying for so long now. I feel so upset about the whole situation. I've never experienced an animal is such a bad state before. 😭

This really says it all. She found what she was looking for...her human. I have been told by more than one vet...cat, dog, and
ER that animals perceive time and illness differently than we do and don't think about all of the "what if's" because they are so much in the present.

Thank you for that, it brings me some comfort. I hope that she enjoyed her time with me and I will definitely remember her for the rest of my life ❤

Because of you, she knew hearth, and home, and love. Because of you, she left this world as Somebody's Cat. Cats live in an eternal "now." No regrets for the past, no fears for the future. What is "now," is ALWAYS. And you gave her a beautiful, love-filled ALWAYS.

I think that sometimes the universe sends us these guys for just that reason. We are the ones to make their last days comforting. Hard on us, oh, beyond belief, but...SUCH a blessing for that cat.
