The first that comes to mind is the day in '89 when, after a very disappointing coach tour around the Loire that managed to miss all the places I wanted to see, Mum and I finally had an hour free time in Paris before getting the boat back to England. I went at top speed to the gallery of French seventeenth century art, looking right and left to find the portrait I was looking for - and turned a corner to see it in front of me. De Champaigne's Louis XIII Crowned by Victory, which remains the most beautiful painting in the world in my book. I'd travelled across the world to see it.

One of my favorite memories is when my parents rented a cabin at Big WHiteshell Resort in Big Whiteshell Provincial Park. We did it for 2 weeks when they were on vacation. My parents would rent a cabin along the shore, so my dad could keep an eye on the boat we brought along. We'd have campfires, my dad would sometimes feed the birds off the back of the boat (he once had a Great Blue Heron visit!), but some of my fondest memories were of everyone being asleep. The lights would be out, the campfires started to fade, and seeing the Northern Lights reflected off the glass-still water on the lake.

Or having a thunderstorm at night and watching the lightning strike the water. That was SOOOOOOO cool.

Day one (in chronological order):
On a 1969 USO tour of Athens, we had had lunch, and had some free time before heading to the Acropolis, so a bunch of us were going through the Agora when we met up with Lloyd Bridges, who graciously agreed to a photo and autograph session with us
Day two:
May, 1970, and I was home on leave for a sister's wedding. It was a Saturday night, so I decided to walk to the local bar and have a few. Most of the patrons knew me, so my money was no good. I was about to leave when someone bought me another beer, and while consuming that, two older guys and two younger girls entered and took up a table. Linda, the girl I knew, came to the bar next to me to order, so I asked who her friend was. It took a while to remember her as the red-headed holy terror who had been the bane of my existence 9 years before in 4-H. Before I headed back to duty, Michele and I had exchanged class rings.
Day three:
The day in 1972 when Michele, that red-headed holy terror, and I walked down the aisle as a newly married couple.
Day four:
The day in 2005 when we bought our first home after renting for so many years.
Day five:
The day in 2016 that a) I retired, and b) we got the letter from the mortgage company informing us that the house was paid for, and we were debt-free.

Sorry I missed this thread. I have a special memory of when we adopted Carleton. I'll never forget it. Once he knew where his litter box was and it had been a week since we kept him in our bedroom I let him out to explore the house for the very first time. i was sitting on the couch watching a famous ballet choreographer on PBS. Carleton jumped in my lap and stayed with me for the entire length of the program. From that time on he spent every night on the couch with me winding down before bed.:angelcat:

Best days are the days when I brought any new animal home...dog or cat. Everyone was a rescue which makes it doubly special.
