I just got my baby boy out of the ER Vet for a blockage. He was there 3 days. They gave me a prescription for Hills urinary care c/d. I ordered some online and uploaded the vet authorization but the food that came just says hills prescription diet and doesn't say "c/d" anywhere. Is it the same? Im confused and can't find a straight answer online. Thanks any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi. The last I have seen the HILLS diet for urinary crystals that they call C/D is a yellow and white can that has C/D written on it.
Can you post a picture of what you have?

Having twice dealt with urinary crystal problems with two of our male cats, I have found the main contributor to be kibble. Our new Vet Clinic that we switched to about 7 years ago suggested we change to a wet food diet (we chose canned Friskies) and we add a product called UroMaxx (from Amazon) to the food. We plan to move over to a raw food diet by the end of the year. Might be something worth considering.

I've also had a cat that had blockages and ate only dry food. Once I switched to wet only, not prescription and added a little water with each feed he was fine. I also found cornsilk and d mannose helped when he wasn't peeing as much as he should. As asked above, can you post a photo, if its the wrong one you should be able to get a full refund.

Never knew about cornsilk and d-mannose. How much of those do you give?

There are support supplements on any pet site, Amazon, Walmart, etc. that have supplements to help with urinary crystals. I give both wet and dry to my cats. Make sure you have plaenty of water bowls around, since I put one on the far side of the house i noticed my cats are drinking a LOT more. They think it's cool to have one where they aren't used to one. I even hear them get up at night and drink!

Make sure its the non alcohol cornsilk.
If the cat is in crisis then give 7 drops 4 times a day, when the clumps of litter get bigger then 7 drops 3 times a day until peeing normally then 7 drops twice a day for a few days to heal inflammation. If only mild irritation then just 7 drops twice a day until normal.
D Mannose either a quarter of a teaspoon daily or an eighth twice daily.
This works for my cat.
I purchase mine from iherb and as both are natural products they dont interfere with other medication.

From my experience the scrip doesn't have to be exact. Just order what you need and upload the scrip. If the site has an issue they'll contact the vet.
