I need help mama isn't producing enough milk we lost one of the 6 overnight and 1 isn't doing well. I have $10 and Mama cat needs help. She was a trapped community cat so I have her locked in a pet taxi with them so she won't move them again and I am trying not to lose the others. 2 have deformities but those aren't the ones that seem to be having issues the tabby ones are the ones I'm not sure if that matters the others are mostly black and they're mostly polydactyl not sure if any of that matters. They also have fleas mama has been treated but I don't know what to do to help the babies. I reached out to the shelter here they're trying to contact the cat real to see if they can help but it could be awhile. Please help I want to save the failing kitten and keep the rest alive.

So what exactly you do need help with? Vets wont prob help, few are used to small kittens, and they wont help with the self caretaking. At the very best vet or his technician will advise you how to handfeed, and perhaps lend you gears....
You CAN of course abandon the cats with the vet; he will prob pts them.

You will prob need to handfeed the kittens... Can you get goat milk or a kmr? kitten milk replacer?
In a pinch human baby milk replacer should do, but dilute it less...

Bottle with nipple, or a syringe without needle, or even a dropper... Begin as soon you can.
Hold the kittens diogonally, head up face down, in the corner of the mouth, dropwise. Train a little on a doll or teddy bear.

Polydactyli doesnt matter.
Deformities? depends on whath they are.... With a little luck the can be harmless; and as home cats they could manage...

Please come back with reports and questions.

Deformities are just legs no biggie on this. Mama is abandoning one it seems I finally got some milk replacer from a rescue and they lent me a heat disc.

Baby is warming and my spynxmanx is currently licking the baby(she's not the mama . How do I know when it's time to try and feed? Do I need to take a temp? I haven't done bottles in some years. The baby is still alive to we have a chance but I'm not usually the bottle baby person I do the special needs after they are weaned usually.

What area are you located in?
I'm in Kansas City Mo. I finally got a rescue to help with the supplies now I've got to figure out when to get baby to eat more than anything. The remaining 4 are doing well but mama is not stimulating them to potty I just did that so hopefully either her or my other car will pickup that part when I go to work tomorrow.

Ok I've reached out to the rescue the baby has a bit of blood looking like from mouth and possibly nose as well I'm going to try a booger sucker to see if I can get it out. Baby is trying to move and turning in a backwards motion she said it could be neurological. I'm unsure of what to do at this point completely. She said just keep it comfortable and do what I can but it probably won't make it. Any advice on what is happening or how to keep the baby alive? Maybe it's a wobble kitty but I don't have experience with them as newborn kittens only as adults... I'm lost.

OK, as it stands in your last post, baby seems to be a dying, and your advisor thinks its just to wait out. I write more further down.

For the last moments. True as the advice you got:
. Keep baby comfortable, Massage it with forefinger, it feeels alike mommas licking. sing and pray if you wish. give it a name... Kitten wont be helped much, but its eternal soul - and you - will have peace.

You MAY try with some pedialyte in the mouth. If you dont have pedialyte or glucose sugar / dextrose, so a droplet of white caro syrup or similiar, on the gum, inside of the lips. And some drops water. Repeat if baby still alive.... Do not give kmr to a chilled or dying kitten - digestion isnt working - but my recommendation glucose sugar or equivalent - doesnt need to be digested.
When evertying is over, let momma (and uncle) see baby is dead, so they wont desperately seek after it, Bury it somewhere, do not use cross - its for humans. But you can put a rememberance stone if you wish. And pray is you wish.
The alternative is the usual cremation, ie wrap it up in a paper or a plastic bag, and lay it with trashes. If your city is burning trashes, it will be cremation of sorts.

Im continuing to write on what to do IF kitten makes it... Stand by.

Ah, you know chilled of kittens shouldnt eat kmr. But something which contains glucose sugar / dextrose - or equivalent - is ok also on chilled off kittens.

Anyway, I presume you have kitten in a warm room, there is this foster aunt and warming up... I think you can give this kmr asap... If you feel unsure - give a sugar water solution to start with. If you happen to have real pedialyte - use this - pedialyte contains glucose sugar.

Momma abandons because she recognizes baby wont make it - but such babies can often be saved by a human caretaker, if the caretaker is enough vigorously caretaking. No quarantiees, but chances better than even.

Ps if baby doesnt take bottle, it may be easier with a dropper or a neeleless syringe... Train some on a doll, its a little tricky.

I hope I have answered all questions.
You are welcome with further question and please continue with reports.

Thank you so much for the help. Baby didn't make it. It was in my hands when it passed. I was on the phone with a rescue who does special needs cats when it happened. I hate this. I hate this so much. Why can't people be responsible. Mama deserved a home and these babies shouldn't be here. I love the special needs cats but I wish that people would just be responsible and not throw them away like trash.

I used to love rescue but it kills faith in humanity. I have had and do have to many animals that don't deserve to be the way they are and it's because of people and their being irresponsible or greedy. I'm sorry I had to vent before I explode right now. I can't thank you enough even though baby didn't make it it's nice to know other people do care for them. Thank u so much. I am so sorry that the kitten passed on. He sounded critical and you did everything that you could to help. How are the other kittens doing? and the mom? I am glad that you were able to get a group locally in KC to give you some support.

Thank you for what you are doing. Rescue is very hard as you often see the bleakest and hardest side of life. Please remember that you can continue this thread in order to get support and that we would like to know how everything progresses.

I understand, seeing abandoned cats and other animals, folks whom dont care etc, you can lose hope in humanity for less.
But its the vice versa for me... I know there are terrible things happing in the world. Im not surprised even If it makes me sad...

But what keeps me up is these good persons whom do their best to rescue cats and other animals. Truly, its my belief many of them are true saints. As also, some of cats and other animals are saints. How come?? If these cats were persons active in the Catholic church, they would be pronounced for saints. Im not a Catholic, so while I borrow the idea - I take the privilege to held persons and animals I find worthy as Saints......

Lotsa rescuers of all sorts. Some here in our Forums. The ukrainian soldiers whom very apparently take care of abandoned animals at frontline...And the cat momma and her kittens are sleeping on this soldier while he rests in the bunker... That american combat medic whom rescued a kitten in Korea, and fed it with condensed milk from field rations - this kitten survived and he took it to USA...

Examples can be multiplied - and thus, even if not all persons are comparable, but I DO know for sure, there IS good in this world, and greatness in us humans as such...

God do after all, allows and encourages us to work for the good, to make the world better, to help other persons and animals, no? Its our right, and our choice.

Thank you all. It breaks me a little every time. I typically seek out special needs animals and this time they found me I suppose.

Mama is doing wonderful she just wants love from me and she's made friends with another one of my cats who steps in while she is out. The 4 kittens are doing great it seems they're eating good and doing well I'm worried mama might not be making them potty how can I be sure? 2 have deformities in their legs 1 fused front leg joints probably call him flipper the other seems like back feet turn under so probably have to get boots if so he'll be called puss in boots. The other 2 seem normal so far 1 is polydactyl the other just a regular black kitten. I don't see anything else concerning offhand thankfully I can deal with some odd walkers lol. Poor mama deserves a break after all she's been through and she'll be getting it as soon as aug 20th comes she's going to get spayed. I saved almost the entire family there's 2 left 1 is pregnant and they didn't apparently think it needed to actually finish the process so now all my hard work was for nothing mostly. I've given them the traps the food the place for them to go and they still couldn't trap 2. Disappointed to say the least. Idk I saved these maybe the other will have had the babies I might go see today and get my traps because I am done helping them. I have idk how many cats from them and I'm not taking anymore if they don't get the last 2.

I hope and pray you will not stop. You are a person of great heart. There are not enough in the world, but every one is needed and every one is absolutely appreciated. RIP the little one who did not make it here on earth. I am very spiritual so I know the soul is eternal and that many of these very fragile little ones don't stay.
Please don't stop. Take a break if you need to, but know that the work you do is invaluable and that they lives you save are most valued and precious. We can't always see the steps ahead. But if we take them, we are at least going forward. I just adopted an ear-tipped former colony cat who'd been in foster for 3 months, from an organization here in L.A. County that does phenomenal work. You hear "we can't save them all!" which I don't listen to because it's BS. We CAN. And we WILL if everyone who cares gets involved, educates themselves and others, and does what THEY can do. No one person can do it all. The foster I adopted my boy from is fostering quite a number who would otherwise be in their facility awaiting personal attention. I've given a home for life to this boy, and my other guy I adopted at 9 who's now 16+. When I was born, our family cat was 3 and we grew up together. I've always adopted rescues, mostly from the street. Each of us does something, and important, lifesaving work gets done, and love happens.
Don't forget that!

Well we've lost 4 of the 6 kittens for unknown reasons. Flipper the fused joints kitten and her brother Willy are the only 2 left. They seem to be doing really well so high hopes that nothing happens to them. I'll try to include pics of them in this. I've not had experience with front fused joints so if anyone has any insight much appreciated. I'm merely worried about them being rubbed raw but she's getting around really well even at 2 weeks.

The kittens both know who I am and their aunt Balu my spynxmanx as well as mama. Flipper comes and lays on my arm at night most of the time now because mama lets me and Balu watch them at night .

Is there anything I can or should be doing to help the legs I'm almost positive they're fused in place or have no outer motion at least but I'm reluctant to take them anywhere until we make it to at least 6 weeks probably 8 honestly. They're small but they're seemingly doing great and they're growing still so I hope we're in the clear.

Willy hates being picked up it seems still for whatever reason he cried but I hope he gets used to it. Being they're the only survivors and I want flipper to have a playmate I'm keeping them both. They're like miracle babies so I'm not even going to try to get rid of Willy.

I do have a question about Willy peeing in my bed the other day... Is that normal? It was days before their 2 week birthday and there was a large wet spot. I was concerned about retention now this.... I mean it's not like it would be the first one but I am confused about the why if he is and the how do I really know especially this young?

Anyway here's mama, babies and aunt Balu too. Mama aka cutie girl is the absolute sweetest kitty she just wants to be loved on all the time by me or Balu. She hates everyone else right now I'm hoping she will get over it when the babies are grown up.

The single images are flipper that's how her legs are all the time

Agree, S silent meowlook . I've watched a fair number of videos showing progress of special needs kittens and I know amazing improvements are possible. Lil BUB was a world-famous special needs kitten with dwarfism and associated medical conditions who lived a very loved life with her caring family. They have videos and are involved in advocating for and helping special needs cats. Also, the site ILoveCatsAnd Kittens frequently features videos on these kittens and cats. Search them if you wish, krisrath11 krisrath11 -- you may find some support there. None of us here at TCS is a vet or qualified to diagnose or talk about treatment, but it looks to me as if this may very well be correctable. Your vet and/or a specialist will be able to tell you more. As to the issue of Willy peeing in the bed, very young kittens are not always 100% on board with where their toilets are; and special needs kittens may have other things going on that connect to this.
Another side issue is that if the kittens have Manx ancestry, they may have some things connected to that. Manx have not only no, or shortened, tails, but their spines are affected. So that's something else to talk with your vet about if they do have Manx ancestry.

Thanks y'all. Yeah when I get my first check from the job I started today as long as we have no issues we'll see if they're fused at least.

I'm seeing no signs that would make me think there's fused vertebrae or anything associated with manx syndrome offhand (I used to have several manx syndrome babies). They're both going to see the vet to see what he can find out.

As long as flipper doesn't rub herself raw and if I know for sure Willy is incontinent or not we'll be fine. Not looking forward to buying diapers again but not a big deal honestly once we ha e the money for the good ones.

O I was simply asking for opinions I wasn't trying to ask for medical advice more just so I can be in contact with people who have raised a kitten with similar mobility issues for tricks and pointers.
