Hi there! I did search for Apoquel in the search and I was wondering if anyone has some more recent experience?

I have no experience with it and one of the most complete discussions of it seems to be in your post of 6/19 where your vet told you not to get fake pet meds. You must be reconsidering it because nothing else has worked? Hopefully others will repond.

Apoquel is working for my cat’s overgrooming. She’s on half a 5.4 mg tablet twice a day. It’s been 3 weeks and I’m seeing a slow down of licking/fur pulling/biting/scratching. She’s no longer bleeding and oozing, and her fur is slowly growing back. My vet suspects the overgrooming is from a bacterial infection, so we are trying various antibiotics to address the actual problem. But the Apoquel is providing relief in the interim. I’ve tried several medications, including Atopica, Prednisone, Prednisolone, Megestrol, Zeniquin, Bravecto, Revolution Plus, Eustoma, Depomedrol, Clindamycin/Clintabs, Fluconazole, Gabapentin, but nothing helped. Her allergy panel resulted in a handful of allergies, so she currently eats Rayne Nutrition kangaroo wet food. I adopted my kitty in July and it’s been a nonstop effort to find and fix the problem. But so far the Apoquel has been the most helpful.

Hi L Leeza that is good news! Have you tried taken your kitty to a veterinary dermatologist?

They are way more suited for allergy treatment and you may have better luck.

Veterinary Dermatologist ? Really. I've never heard of such a speciality.

There is a specialty for many different areas of veterinary medicine just like us humans. We had to have a biopsy done for our dog because of how his skin was affected and the regular vet was stumped. He said in his 30 years of medicine he'd never seen anything like it. The veterinary dermatology specialist literally and figuratively saved his life and gave us 13 more wonderful years with him. They were in contact with both the U of CA, Davis and U of PA who had both done extensive research on his condition.

Maybe that's a specialty found in California but unlikely found in Iowa.

Hi there. Yes, she is under the care of a dermatologist — that is who put her on the Apoquel to get some relief. We are doing regular skin scrapes to check for bacterial changes. The last resort is the lengthy and expensive allergy immunotherapy, but I hope it doesn’t come to that. I feel like I’m looking for a needle in a haystack.
