Hi friends, I hope all of you are doing well. Especially with all thats going on in this world right now.
It's been a really long time, so I thought it was time for an update. As many of you know, almost 2 yrs ago now, I unexpectedly had to move from where I lived for a little over 20 yrs. With things being so expensive here in a coastal & college town, and no roomate options, I had no choice but to move back in with my parents at 48 yrs old! It was not easy to say the least! One positive thing that came of it though, was that I was finally able to get that care credit paid off! I was greatful for it, to help when my kitties were sick, (& some dental for me), but I really never want to have to use that again!! Anyway........... fast forward, & I FINALLY found a place!! It only took me 20 months! Its at the top of my budget, but I found a place I could afford on my own.
Its an old condo. There are 7 building here. Four places per building. 2 up & 2 down.
I am on an end unit, which is nice, & downstairs. One of my cousins is retired, & was doing some paint trim work for the landlord, a guy from her church, so she asked about it for me & texted me about it. It was definitely very different when I first saw it! New flooring was coming, so it was all cement, & definitely needed to be cleaned!
Knowing I'd been looking for so long, & not finding anything, I applied & got it! That was March. But then with all of the covid stuff starting, I stayed at my parents for a little longer. I also wanted to get everything set up as much as possible before actually moving in, so I wouldn't be overwhelmed & more stressed. So I came every afternoon after working, & all day on Saturdays to get it all done. Although the movers moved everything from storage on March 14th, My official move in was April 4th.
He originally said no pets, but my cousin asked him about it, knew I'd want another kitty some day, & assured him of how clean I keep things. (Ummm, hello, I have my own cleaning business). So he said he'd allow it, but with a non refundable $200 deposit, & rent would be $25 extra a month! SO, that sucks!!! Its already at the top of my budget, and $25/ mo extra, on top of Good food for a kitty, as well as vet care, etc... I just can't do it. Not now. Now that he's seen how clean & nice I keep it here, I would ask if he'd consider just the deposit & not any extra $ a month. I just don't know that he'd do it, seeing that he didn't want pets here to begin with. I don't know...
But...there are two strays that have shown up. A tortie girl & a long black male.
I swore I wasn't going to start feeding them. They both seemed fed, not skinny or anything. They are skiddish though. They won't get close enough to pet. I got the cat bowls out & keep a bowl of fresh water out there for them. I finally broke down & bought treats. Even before then though, they were hanging out quite a bit. The girl upstairs said the older cpl who lived here before fed them. I wasn't sure how often, but didn't want to take a chance they may be hungry, so I bought some food. The grocery store had friskies on sale, 10/$6, so I got 12. Then the girl upstairs left a box of 40 by my door w/ a note. Said, "for the outside cats." & Her # . I texted her thank you, & how sweet & thoughtful it was, & that I really appreciated it. She said she knows how it can add up, & thanked me for my labor of love. That was so nice.
So, they get a can each for breakfast & dinner. That's 4 cans/ day! I may end up having to switch one meal to dry, but we'll see. I just opened the 40 pk yesterday.
The tortie looks as if she has been TNR'd, ( thankfully!!). But he needs to be. If I can find anyone doing it now. With the virus stuff changing things & being kitten season, its if I can even get ahold of someone...... They dissapear under the fence behind me. There's a house w/ a tarp & a tree on the roof from one of the storms last yr. I wonder if they sleep there.
They seem to be somewhere around 3 or 4?? (I've actually caught him playing with the leaves, He tries to chase & play w/ her, but she wants no part of it).
Don't know, hard to really tell age. But they have seemed to manage together so far, so that makes me feel better. I think they're sweet, but just skiddish. Maybe one day they'll trust me enough to allow me close enough to pet w/ o the screen door between us. I also Finally gave them names. Honey, because she has so much of that color in her, under her neck & her bk right foot, and for him, Panther!
So my friend's, thats the (sorry so long, but so much to tell) update!
I'm still around here & there. I don't poste as much, but still checking in from time to time.
Here's my place! This is the day before mother's day, so the table is set for that. My sister & I did brunch for our mom. The spare rm is more together now, I'll post video of that too. The pc of iron I painted, setting in front of the fireplace is supposed to go up on the mantle, I just wanted to get some bracket's first for extra support.. just in case! Its really Heavy!!
Also Finally found teal candles for the holders up there.
