I have written about Trooper before, lately of him driving me crazy . He has apparently salivary gland swelling and that was his howling reason. The vet gave him antibotic shot and he is better but what next. I am I Florida And our vet is cat only and is excellent. She wants us to see a surgeon about Trooper . I am having trouble getting to see a surgeon that will see him . Has anyone had a cat with this problem and what to do.

I'm sorry not to have any feedback on your post, but hope others will see and be able to help Trooper and you.:agree:

Hi. So the vet must be thinking Trooper needs to have his some of salivary glands removed? (There are 5 major ones, from under the tongue and in the neck area). What testing did she do? Has she given you a referral to a surgeon?

Usually any specialty vets, including surgeons, will require a referral before they will agree to see a new patient. I know you think your vet is excellent, but it might behoove you to first see an internal med vet in a specialty group with other specialists on staff, particularly oncology, so they can consult each other, if need be. They may have access to a surgeon if deemed necessary. If your vet did any testing, that can be shared with them to possibly reduce consultation costs. Your vet should be able to offer groups that she can refer you to.

He had this about 9 months ago and she did a biopsy and a swab. It was inconclusive but not cancer or infection. He was seen by surgeon then but it was not inflamed, they did a mri and saw nothing. It is back now under both sides of tongue. He is eating smalll amounts puréed food and not taking much water. I am giving him rescue drops and that seems to keep him comfortable, o day I will try to get his records and his vet is going to refer him to a surgeon. I feel so helpless

After his enucleation a Few months ago, l do not want to put him through something like this. For that I feel quilty, but we will see after see surgeon. Again, thank you
