My 14 year old cat has become a picky eater. He loves treats, but he's not finishing his actual meals. I took him to the vet a few weeks ago, and the vet said he is healthy and an okay weight. He said to feed him what he would eat, but I think he's lost a little weight since then.

I found lists of high calorie foods, and I have switched him to one that has more calories. I'm trying to find out what else I can add. I know there's supplements, but my only experience is with the malt flavored gel kind. My last cat wouldn't eat that. I don't know if anything else works. He usually gets some Temptations treats, and I do give him a very small amount of people food (meat or cheese). Is there human food I can add? I gave my last cat high fat yogurt when she was old. My cats have not had problems with dairy, but I always hesitate to give them much because it is a problem for some cats.

Any ideas are appreciated. I will obviously take him back to the vet if this doesn't improve, but he definitely has an appetite. He is not very active, but there hasn't been any recent change. He definitely still yells at me if he thinks a meal is late or I have food he wants.

Do you have a pet scale? Curious if he has lost weight. Once cats are senior it is helpful to have one
My cat is a healthy 9 pds. Her food is low cal high protein(wet only). Also likes high cal wet food, occasionally

Kitten food is ideal, it is full of vitamins and calories. Either wet or dry. If your cat can eat SOME milk or yogurt without getting diarrhea or vomiting, he should be fine. I have one that can eat it and two that get diarrhea.

I don't have a pet scale. I am seriously considering it. I did weigh myself holding him and without him, and his weight was lower. However, my bathroom scale isn't always reliable, so I'm not sure how much lower. I think a pet scale would be a good investment.

My 9 pd cat eats a 6 oz can of weruva double dipped 110 cals chicken and beef, last 2 meals 3 oz can 55 cals of weruva chicken. Her treats are pure bites freeze dried chicken. Mornings she wants that mixed in. So probably about 170 total. My 3 cats are now 10,11,and 12. All have lost weight but look the same by weight. I can feel their bones but they are not sticking out
My cat Maggie does not eat her morning food at once She goes back and forth in the morning 4x to finish her food so it takes an hour to feed her.

Look at baby scales,
you will have a much bigger selection. Then a couple of treats or a churu squeezed on there will help them stay put.
