Tips for photographing a black dog?

Hopefully some of you with a gift for photography have tips for getting a good photo?

If I don't use a flash, it's hard to distingish Beth's features:




The problem is the same outdoors in bright sunlight:


If I use a flash, her eyes &/or fur usually reflect:




Any ideas?

Ohhh good thread - I would like to know this, too, as Chester's face just disappears when I take pics of him.

I always get best results photographing Sabrina in natural light outside. Indoors, keep a light on, use your flash and stay a few feet away using your zoom to get in closer. Im no professional photog, but this is what has worked for me.

Just a thought-- If your camera has an Adaptive Lighting feature, try using that. It might give more definition to the dark areas of the image.

I find that natural sunlight is the best and always have the sun to your back.
