Actually debbila and you have given synonyms of the word in question. I have just asked one of my grandsons, who is a professor in the American School here in Montevideo, to check the word g - - - - - y in his American dictionary and he confirmed the word is there with a similar definition as in my British English dictionary. Wakey, wakey then :)

PS. It is the synonym of "audience" but ALSO of the place where the spectators are placed. In the case of a theatre where the cheapest seats are contained.

This is google's definition word by word:
"A raised area, often having a stepped or sloping floor, in a theater, church, or other public building to accommodate spectators, exhibits, etc.
