I never thought I could have another cat after Carleton but I've been in such a funk ever since he passed away. We've always had cats ever since we were first married and the thought of not having another four-legged friend in the house seemed depressing. I had been checking a particular site that does not have a physical building since all their cats are in foster homes. Sure enough an Exotic Shorthair came up and after having 3 Persians I jumped on applying for him. We brought this little guy home yesterday. He had a sad story which made me love him even more. I'm a sucker for any animal that had a rough start in life.

He was dumped in a dirty, dark basement by his previous owner when they moved out of their apartment. They placed an ad on one of the social media sites for a free cat. When someone showed up to see him he had a nasty neck infection encircling his entire neck. He was very uncomfortable and was soon placed in foster care where he was taken to the vet immediately. The vet felt he had an injury from a collar that was too tight and imbedded into his skin. He received treatment and felt better shortly after. Now he's home with us and hopefully will live a long and happy life. He's so unbelievably affectionate which just goes to show how animals can forgive and trust again. :catlove:

We named our new guy, Seymour, after the movie, Little Shop of Horrors, since he's such a ravenous eater - Feed me, Seymour, Feed me!

I'm so happy for you! And how wonderful that you could offer this boy a truly loving and safe home after all his trials.:hugs:

Carleton was one of those 'TCS Cats' we all knew and loved, and I'm sure Seymour will be the same.💞

I love this and his name! He won the jackpot now. As much as it's hard when animals change homes, sometimes it is for the WAY better. Can't wait to see more pics and hear stories as you learn his personality. His face is so cute! Any idea on age?

The foster told me 2-3 years old but I think their vet thought closer to 3. I already have an appointment with our own vet so I'll be curious to hear what they think. And since you asked for more pics I'm very happy to oblige.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, neely neely and Seymour -- I'm so happy you have found each other and I wish that sweet little man a long, happy, healthy, well cared for, comfortable, LOVED life -- he (like every cat!) so deserves it. Trying to focus on the now rather than on his nightmarish past. He is so adorable! Is he as sweet as he looks?:redheartpump::catlove::redheartpump::goldstar:

My enthusiasm waned yesterday afternoon when Seymour started to act sick, e.g. lethargic and no appetite. It was like a switch was turned off from the sweet, affectionate boy we adopted a few days ago. DH wanted me to bring him to the ER vet but I wanted to wait and monitor him first since he's been through a lot in a short period of time. Later last night he vomited clear liquid and I saw a small hairball. After that he used the litter box, purred when I picked him up and, being a ravenous eater which is why we named him Seymour in the first place, he started to act more normal. :lovecat2:

*PRAYERS* and hoping this was just a (very temporary and done) slight turn. Fluff had a LOT of furballs when he first came here. I was seriously concerned. His foster had brushed him and I brush him daily or more often, but he has long fur and is a persistent groomer. We've gotten past that stage! I still groom him daily or more often, and I gave him Petromalt, which he didn't want, one time. Plus, his foster couldn't afford to feed all of her fosters wet food, so he, and the rest of them, got dry with only little "treats" of wet. Now, he eats wet 3x a day with high quality dry as an adjunct, and Feline Greenies as treats right before bedtime. It seems to be working well.

Yes, I think it was temporary.:crossfingers: He had all his vaccines this past week plus a deworming and flea treatment even though the foster said he didn't show any signs of worms or fleas. He also finished the round of antibiotics from the infection around his neck. Personally I understand he needed his vaccines but I think to get all of this at once then go to a new home was a lot for any cat to go through.
The foster was very thorough and took excellent care of him so I'm not complaining just another helicopter cat mom here.

Good news though, Seymour loves to be combed - first cat ever we had who liked it. He likes all the wand toys we have and I'm going to look into a puzzle feeder to slow down his ravenous appetite. I'm thinking of something like this:

ETA - rubysmama rubysmama I saw the puzzle feeder you made in Tux's thread. That's pretty cool. :cool2:

That's a good idea and Catstages is a good brand. Hoping he will enjoy this! And I agree 100% about getting all of that at once. I know it's the done thing and in these times when most vet visits are appointment-only (and most people are pressed financially and for time) it makes sense. But it is a lot of stuff to endure at one time.

NO! I would not waste your money on that one! I bought it for Tuxxie.. Nope! Please Look at the negative reviews! They are true.

I tried it out once. I the dry food got caught so tightly in-between the 'corridors' that even I had a difficult time taking it out. It does not work for cats. I do not know if it would even work for dogs. I had to use my fingernail to get the dry food out. It gets packed in so tightly.

I think Seymours tummy issue was just from all the stress of the Vet, and the vaccinations. I would let it go-- just keep it in the back of your mind. ❤
