One of my ferals is white, with big, black patches. One is a sideways heart shape, so I named her Amore (Italian for "love" and it's a joke about the brand of canned cat food!)

I want to write a cute guide suggesting really awesome cat names to people.

Want to help me brainstorm here?
Post in this thread with the best cat names you can think of!

Obviously pretty much anything can be a cat name so let's focus on names that are somehow meaningful for felines. I hope that makes sense? For each animal crossing island names, I'd like to explain the meaning to users and which cat it's best for, so for example "Patches" describes the coat pattern is a name for a calico or a bicolor cat with patches.

I may work it into a database, so this is what I need for each name -

The name - Male/Female/Either - Meaning

So for example, lines in the reply would look like -

1. Kitty - Either - A classic cute version of the word cat

Thanks a bunch in advance for all the wonderful ideas I know you're all going to come up with! And don't worry about starting out with the common simple ones - we need them too!
I would never pick out the cat's name before I picked out the cat! I prefer to choose names that suit their personality, colors, stories, etc.

Hello and welcome to TCS! This is a great comMEWnity and I hope you enjoy it here. This is a great idea, especially since so many cats have less-than-wonderful names and their people obviously need some helpful inspiration!

my first cat was named Ruffles after an orange cat i loved in a book i read when i was a kid. i was 4 when i got her, funny enough she was grey, but my next cat was orange and i called him Scoota after a crazy orange kitten that was up for adoption at my work at the time.

i lost him in february and struggling with names for my next cat. i’ve come up with Kiwi or Disco. Kiwi because i wanted a New Zealand type name, but that’s all i can think of 😂 and Disco because i love retro things, but i love the unique names and can’t think of anything that sticks

Hello and welcome to TCS! Hoping you'll enjoy it here in our global community of cat lovers and cats. If NZ is your preference, maybe a name from the Lord of The Rings? *And we love pix here at TCS!*

So handsome!

Wow, you're the first person I've ever "met" who says that. But anyway. I'm sure you'll find a good name -- in my experience, cats let us know their names in time, by their appearance, personality, qualities or other ways.
haha oops. funny enough my cousin worked on that film. i have a huge list of names i like over the years, so i’ve got it down to Kiwi and Disco, but i still wait until the cat arrives and you know their little quirks and personality to which one sticks

Yeah. True. Our newest family member is named Mr. Fluffy Fluff. He IS male and he IS very fluffy. But I wouldn't have named him that. That is the name his finder/foster named him, though, so Mr. Fluffy Fluff it is. He is getting nicknames by the moment, though. *I can't share photos because of some kind of problem with WIN11Pro that MS says it's aware of but hasn't fixed and probably never will. But anyway, you can see him on his own thread where a TCS friend was able to help out.*

Speck, of course! It means "ham" in German. I wanted a spotted cat and he had lots of spots, as a kitten, when I adopted him from a shelter. The spots grew elongated and turned into stripes as he became big-boned (to put it politely).

IMHO, it is s pretty name for a mackerel tabby or a Bengal with rosettes.

Terry Gruber’s book Working Cats has marvelous names in it—- they seem to spring out of where it was they were discovered or where their place of ”business” is, so for example the trio found on a golf course are called Eagle, Birdie and Bogey. Agree with the others: the cat is telling you what it‘s name is, you just have to put your ear to the tracks.
