Welp...the 2 tornado warnings and severe storms we had killed half my garden. So it looks like the storm might have killed all my corn, some of my cucumbers, some of the sun sugar tomato plants I started from seed, and it snapped a few flowering pieces off the pre-started sun sugars from the plant place...

Last year I was able to stand my corn and things back up! I added dirt around the base and used poles with twine to add support. It even worked with my mammoth sunflowers!

Our gardens are transitioning from spring to summer flowers.
All beautiful flowers. Never heard of Blue Star sea holly before. Very cool.

The first flower that I've seen on the hens and chicks
That's neat. I thought the only flowers they got were the death blooms. Can you post another pic of them, showing more of the entire plant, and not just the bloom.

And if you cannot find copper pennies, rubysmama rubysmama rubysmama rubysmama how about a very small piece of copper pipe to put in the bird bath.
That's a good idea too. Thanks for suggesting it.

That's what I did today. Now to just cross my fingers and wait. 🤞
Good luck. Hope it works.

Good luck!! I just finished hilling this years corn.
Oh, that looks great.

Though I thought about it earlier in the year, I never got around to preparing a spot for veggies, and now it's too late. :sigh: Next year, maybe.

My flowers aren't as far along as some of yours, but things do seem to be weeks ahead of schedule, and I can't help wondering what, if anything, will still be blooming in August/September. :dunno:

If what I have read is correct, the sea holly is related to the thistle, at least it has the thistle's spines.

I took pictures of the rest of the gardens the other day but I haven’t had the patience to post them. :lol2: Typing on the phone is annoying sometimes.

These are looking beautiful and smell amazing!

The peas are just about ready! They are short this year though.

DD planted the cosmos in pots. The crabgrass in the one pot makes me laugh. It’s totally her project!

The new roses are growing a lot! They’ve started blooming again too.

The birdbath needs scrubbing. I may bleach it in the sun first.

DD picked some peas last night. I really need to weed around them. I took one jalapeño today and I’ll get a few more later. I’m making a jalapeño lime marinade for chicken next week so I’m really excited to try these! I kind of wish I’d gotten 2 of this plant!

Update:
InShot_20210626_101151317_resize_67.jpg

First photo was taken June 2nd, second photo was taken this morning. Zucchinis are yellow (was not expecting that). Squashes are running. But all the plant leaves are being eaten down each and every night. I suspected earwigs so I set a trap and caught a lot but pieces of foliage are still disappearing.

Peas are doing pretty great. I made a trellis out of used mask strings. Some of them have pea pods on them. I actually was able to eat one.

Tomatoe plants are great but no sign of tomatoes, just flowers.

Your summer squash looks great!! I haven’t grown that in a few years because we’ve had issues. I decided I’ll just get some from a farm stand. I’m the only big fan here anyway. Unless its made into bread. Summer Squash bread with lemon and fresh blueberries baked inside is amazing!! :yummy:

The first year we had a garden I packed out a 4x8’ raised bed. I had no idea how big the squash plants would get and the took over everything! For someone who used to have a plant phobia; those giant leaves bigger than my head and prickly stems were not too fun. DH had to help me harvest! But now I’ve been at this for long enough that things don’t bother me. I have attempted smaller varieties with spineless stems. But bugs and powdery mildew keep taking them out.

Keep a close eye on the squash though. They can get big quick! We’ve got pictures of DD as a toddler with zucchini as long as her legs! DH found them hiding in the middle!

The next round of flowers are starting to blossom after the rain we got Saturday.
The first bloom oh the Ernest Markham clematis
20210628_134550.jpg

The orange Asian lilies are about done, but these are taking their place
20210626_210453.jpg

The Coral Craze coneflowers are popping out
20210628_134415.jpg

And so is the nameless yellow one
IMG_1672.JPG

We also have a patch of daylilies that migrated over from our neighbor's, but we don't mind
IMG_1680.JPG

And a close-up

The Delphinium are slowly developing

And we have more than ever in this, their third year

We had a severe storm come through this afternoon. We all spent time in my closet. Most of my gardens showed some kind of damage. The corn was basically all flat. One pole from the pole beans snapped. My potted cherry tomato plant fell over. The other tomatoes were wired to the fence so I only had to stand the taller sweet 100s up. They should be ok.

I had extra poles so I was able to fix the beans. DH kept a bunch of heavy dutyfence poles so I used one to tie the bean poles to since it still wanted to lean.

The corn patch also has some of the tall posts and twine to help give them stability. I hilled the corn this year and its done better. DD helped me there and it looks like it will all be ok. I do have more soil so maybe this weekend I’ll make the hills higher.

The bush beans were whipped around but they should be fine. I need to harvest those this weekend!

Before the storms came in I got a few pictures of my new roses. They and the sunflowers escaped any damage. My potted flowers all looked fine. The worst damage is to our big silver maple. It has one big limb down and another smaller one high up broken. About a week ago DD came inside saying the tree was making noises but DH thought it was just a bird. We couldn’t see anything either. So maybe that’s just a coincidence.

Beautiful yellow flowers on them too. Do they turn green as they ripen?

So pretty!

That sounds like a scary storm. You all had to shelter in the closet because the storm was so bad?

Well, my garden is being drenched by the monsoon at the moment, but loads of the hosta seeds I harvested last year have started to grow. I started them off on a piece of damp kitchen towel in a Ziploc bag and now I've moved about 40 of them to their own little plot in some of the egg cartons I've been saving. I put about another 20 straight outside in the hosta bed to see if they do better that way. If I can raise just one adult plant I'll be happy.

There has been more progress in the garden.
The tomatoes are developing nicely
IMG_1707.JPG

One of the new daylilies, named Bestseller, is now in bloom
IMG_1701.JPG

The nameless coneflower continues to develop
IMG_1709.JPG

The Coral Craze are now in full bloom
IMG_1706.JPG

The sea holly are gradually taking on a silver color as the blooms age.
IMG_1705.JPG

The widow's tears are really taking hold
IMG_1704.JPG

And finally, the Cheyenne Spirit coneflower is starting to open up
IMG_1703.JPG

Still to be heard from is the other new daylily, the phlox, and the black-eyed Susan, but they are only a week or so off.

I got an emergency alert from the National system for a tornado warning right before the tree lost a limb. I didn’t stick around to see when the other was damaged. I had to grab Mooch’s kennel from the garage and grab her. Everyone got a talking to about why I leave it in the dining room! I’m still waiting to hear if it was officially a tornado.

These lilies and the sea holly are stunning and my favorites from what you posted! Quite the display of many colors and shapes in your garden. :)

Oh, and the tomatoes starting! Mine just flowered this past week or so, with the big cherry tomato plant with a head start! I'll be posting my update pics soon!

Tomatoes have flowers and I also installed cages yesterday. I didn't have them last year and excited to see how they work.

Catnip also almost shoulder high! I will be chopping soon and letting it regrow. My friend e some huge pots and thinking the catnip would be nice to grow in them.
