Lilacs are blooming. And the hostas and other shade perennials are starting to spread their wings.
Ah, you have lilacs! I wonder if they would survive up here? I guess we get similar weather. I love lilacs. I have the same kinds of Hostas as you do and mine are about that size too.

They probably would survive there, as your weather is similar to us, except we don't get monsoon season like you do.

I've got some that are bigger, but they all have to struggle with tree roots, so none get as big as they would in perfect growing conditions.

I ordered some plant watering stakes last night. You screw an empty water/soda bottle on to them and they provide drip watering. I’m going to see if this helps my tomatoes in pots to not dry out. Normally they need water twice a day. Of course I need bottles now too. I’m praying it works so I have some more flexibility this summer with my gardens!

Tomatoes looking sad with discoloration and maybe thinning or holes forming... Worried it is a fungal thing going on, but still researching. Anybody have any insight?

(Don't mind the white fuzzies... the cotton trees are shedding!)

Mildew maybe. You can try picking off the diseased leaves. There are probably other treatments for it on the web.

Maybe heat stress? I’ve had similar looking problems when my plants are young and it gets hot. Especially on the beans but other plants too.

I’ve been meaning to post a few pictures of how things are growing. Photobomb coming:

You can see that most of the lima beans didn’t sprout. I’ve replanted to try again.

I need to get a better picture of the petunias I have out front. I realized I am visible in the reflection of my front door and that just won’t do right now. :lol2:

We did just have lots of heat, but then a week of cool and just started heating back into the 70's this week but not super hot yet. But Iw as wondering that since I lost some lettuce and worried it was the heat. Crossing my fingers it's just that, but I'll keep and eye on them!

Your plants are so far along, love love love!!

Did you make the upside down water bottle self-watering thing yourself?

I bought the pick part on Amazon but you add the bottle yourself depending on the size you need for your plant. I put soda bottles in the peppers but big 1.5L in the tomatoes. I went to the grocery store specifically looking for tall narrow bottles. They were $.99 each so not bad.

These are the picks I went with:Upgraded Adjustable Self Watering Spikes. Indoor Outdoor Plastic Bottle Garden Plant Drip Irrigation Automatic Device Spike System. Works as Plants Watering Bulbs - Globes with Drip Control Valve. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DVTCDWW/?tag=thecatsite

There were a lot of them with unknown brands and questionable reviews. You know how Amazon is. :rolleyes2: And of course a bunch were out of stock.

Around Mothers dAy I had shared a photo of an Itoh peony with my kids that I saw at Lowes. I have always wanted one since I heard about them, but they were out of my price range. One morning as we were leaving for the doctors visit, there were two of them sitting in my front yard! My daughter in law had purchased them for me. ILOVE them!

I finally got the vegetable garden planted - late. The weather and doctors appointments as well as physical therapy and nurse visits for hubby slowed me down. Last fall I planted garlic, which is growing very well. This year I have corn, pole beans, pinto beans, kidney beans, black beans (I like chili and use all 3 in it), purple hull peas, sweet peas, watermelon, cantaloupe, bunching onions, tomatoes (6-7 varieties),dill, parsley, basil. breadbox poppies. edible flowers, sugar pumpkins, cucumber -pickling and salad, yellow summer squash, 2 kinds of carrots, calendula, marigolds, poblano peppers, serrano peppers, cayenne peppers, jalapeno peppers, sweet bell peppers, storage onions, potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, broccoli, lettuce, artichokes, and celery. I had more to plant but missed the window for it so will put the greens in in the fall. I am set with the dehydrator this year but still need canning jars and really want a small freezer. My neighbor who helped remove that hedge last year works for the town and has offered to bring me a load of compost for free. I just have to wait until he has time to do it.
A bonus photo. One of my front gardens. Mostly just bearded iris, Siberian Iris and columbine right now. Later will be filled with daylilies, anemones, dahlias (I hope - just planted them) and carnations. I really need to work on summer/fall flowering plants.

It's beautiful !!!! And even more special, I'm sure, since it was a gift from your DiL.

pinto beans, kidney beans, black beans (I like chili and use all 3 in it),
I'd like to see pics of those once they start growing, and when they're ready to harvest.

That all sounds SO good posiepurrs posiepurrs ! I dedicated want to see pictures as things grow! :redheartpump:
I hope they grow. Since I retired I seem to have lost my green thumb. It didn't help that I was fighting the rabbits earlier this season either. I solved that by installing netting around the entire garden to keep them out - so far it has worked.

I have bunny fence topped with bird netting. Which caught a snake a few weeks ago. I’m trying the liquid fence granuals too. It’s supposed to last longer between applications. It makes weeding hard to fence the 4x8 foot beds. I keep sticking my arm between the fence and the net but I can’t reach everything easily.

I forgot to show you guys what I've done so far
Good work! That looks like a lot of effort, but it's looking very nice.

That's so pretty. Do you have any tips on how to keep iris happy? I had a few that bloomed for a few years, but now they only put up leaves and no flowers. I think the winter here might be too much for them.

Mr. Meow Mr. Meow that looks amazing! I really like the little bench you've made in the middle.

My garden is getting it's summer jungle look about it, but the cats like it that way. I took this about a month ago. It's crazy how much greener and lusher it looks after the first few weeks of rainy season.

The flowers are doing well. This azelea is doing a little better in it's new location.
