Any idea what would be a good one to start with?
maybe the lowest or next lowest. A little cushier handle might be good if there are options/ different products in that aspect.

Weights and some leg work, a couple planks. I read that the actress/singer Cher can do five minute planks, lordy me!!

Yesterday's workout didn't leave me too sore. Mostly I feel sore where my deltoid and pectoral muscles meet. I can't tell if it's from sleeping or exercising. I know I woke up to roll over a lot. (DH said he had to go out to the garage for ear plugs in the middle of the night because I was sawing logs and I keep ending up in the middle of the bed. aka in his face...:paperbag: ) But I'm glad it's just elliptical day today. DH and I have been going back and forth about whether or not it's time to buy a new mattress. I really don't feel like 7/8 years is a good enough lifespan for the cost of these things. :hmmm:

Anyway; maybe a good workout will loosen everything up! Except what needs tightening.

That makes sense. Must look around and see what's out there.

I sometimes have trouble opening jars
They come in different weight ranges. Any idea what would be a good one to start with?
Mr H says that you use different muscles when trying to open a jar, because you have to open you hand wide and span it. Those hand grippers are good for improving your closed finger clench power, but you need something like this to improve your span strength.

But start with the easiest/lowest pressure ones. I'm pretty strong and I can't move some of his finger strengtheners at all!

I've been doing lots of yard work and walking and about an hour of yoga every day. It's still so warm for October! Usually I turn my heat on by the 1st. This year I'm still sleeping with the windows open.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought of it like that. But as I'm sitting here wiggling my fingers I can see it's different. I sort of remember how it was difficult to reach the farthest keys properly when I started playing flute as a kid. That doesn't really require strength per se; but to be able to press and release properly..

Same here. Well; our air conditioner is still on. It was in the 90s yesterday. I need to clean out my tomato plants but it's just been too hot. It's supposed to improve soon. I was thinking we need to take advantage and go kayaking a few more times. Although really we prefer it in the 70s for that. It just feels like one day it's going to go from 90s to 50s on us or something. But it does make for nice outside time. And we've got plans for a corn maze soon too. And bird watching at a nature preserve. We should get some good outside exercise this fall. :agree:

We didn't get snow like they did out west, but the last couple days temps have dropped off more than I like. :cold: And since I put down some grass seed on Monday, I'm not impressed. Hopefully the sun beating down will be enough to convince those little seeds to germinate and grow. :sunshine:

Good points about needing different gadgets for finger versus hand strength. Maybe I need both of them, as sometimes when I'm writing with a pen, I lose grip of it too. Wonder if it's a carpal tunnel thing? :headscratch: Or just an age thing. :(

Yes, severe carpal tunnel can cause you to lose your grip. It can actually cause the muscle at the base of your thumb to whither from nerve damage. I have had severe carpal tunnel and surgery in both hands. Post surgery my thumb muscle recovered in one hand but the other was too damaged leaving that hand grip permanently weaker. So if you suspect carpal tunnel, see a hand specialist and get tested. Carpal surgery is relatively painless and well worth it.

I have no pain though, so leaning towards ... aging. :sigh:

So a few days ago I said I was going to start going to walks again starting Oct 1. It hasn't quite happened, unless walking down to the corner to the community mail box counts. :hmmm:

I had no hand pain in my worst hand, just numbness and loss of strength. I was afraid I had a brain tumor or something and was stunned to find out it was carpel tunnel.

Really? Must keep that in mind, if I notice any significant change.

I'm wondering, if it's not something specific like carpal tunnel maybe you could also try a little weight lifting, the wrist and arm muscles, as well as the shoulders and back, need strengthened too. A two pound weight will give you a reasonably gentle start, and there too, pay attention to how you grip the weight and your posture as you lift.

I bought dumbbells years ago, which I think are still around somewhere. I think they were 5 lb ones. Must look for them ...

I got some inexpensive ones at Walmart before. I think they were 2 and 3 lb. I also have some inexpensive ones you strap on your ankles. So many muscles are connected. When I was going to physical therapy for plantar fasciitis; they were even looking at my hip strength. DH went for knee pain and they told him is quads were too tight and had him strengthening his hips.

My mother has had similar information shared with her since she's been going to occupational therapy after breaking her arm last spring. I really feel like these therapists can offer more practical help than doctors in some ways!!

I've been "tennis-ing" like crazy on an outdoor court, trying to get in shape to do some cross country skiing, plus all the indoor courts cost too much so my opportunities may become slimmer (heh, bad pun LOL) as the weater/seasons change.

rubysmama rubysmama I've been thinking about you, how are the hands?

Last week was really hard to be consistent. I normally don't have to run out more than a few times a week; but I was busy outside of the house every single day! Saturday we went kayaking and that helped make up for it some. Although it was much more of an upper body workout than I have been getting. I was in SO much pain Saturday night. That's what I get for "racing" DD! I won though. I dozed off on the couch and couldn't roll over without a lot of effort that night. But I felt fine Sunday morning. My shoulders are a tad tight sitting at the kitchen table with my laptop now; but nothing to complain about.

I am still working at mastering the next resistance level on the elliptical. Last week I had it up a level for 1/2-2/3 of the workout and then I eased up a bit. It's progress no matter how long it takes right?

I did get good news when I had a doctor's appointment; my vacation didn't ruin my weight loss. :woo::flail:I was a little concerned because we ate so well and I haven't been weighing myself. My weight is about what it was early in the summer but I can feel it going down again. And see it in my waist and in my face again. :yess: Also I don't have to go see that doctor again. :yess::yess: Thank you Lord!:bunnydance::banana2:

Good job you two!

I've got a loose cat that I'm trying to find at the moment, so I've been going for lots of long walks, up and down every little lane calling her name. It's been raining for almost two weeks non-stop now. I think she must be holed up somewhere dry.

I've been doing 30-45 minute yoga sessions every day too. I like my longer 90 minute routine, but I'm kind of busy at this time of year. a short practice is better than nothing.

Keep going everyone.
