my daughters cat came from a Ferrell set of parents in my barn. He is huge (15 lbs) with beautiful long hair. Tonight I had the joy of thinking his nails because they are long and we noticed weird. All of his nails on his front paws are this way

Do you mean "trimming" his nails?
Not sure what exactly is weird about them. Unless they grew too long...and started to curl into his paw pads??
Senior cats sometimes need help with keeping their front claws trimmed...because they are not as active on their scratching posts...or climbing.

Hi. I am not sure what you are pointing out, so I circled the area in red that I suspect you are referring to - see attached. Those are thickened claws, it could be from the sheaths not splitting and falling off, which is what normally should happen. I am not sure of the cause(s), but it may be from lack of trimming and your cat's age. Take a look at this article link to see if anything in it might help.
