When we adopted our present cat who is longhaired he was so badly matted that they shaved everything except the fur around his face. Fortunately all the fur grew in nicely. Don't worry, your cat's fur should grow in before you know it.

Yes, it will. One of my cats had her tail shaved in March after another cat bit her, but you can't even tell it was done now.
