Hi all,

We noticed on Sunday that our 2 year old cat had one fully dilated pupil (right eye). Took him to the vets yesterday and they have no idea what's wrong with him. He seems perfectly happy, is still eating ok, but apparently the right eye is immobile with no reaction to light and the left eye is showing strange pupil movement. They also noticed strange 'lines' in his right eye.
He's been reffered to an ophthalmologist but does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be??

Thanks in advance,

Russell.

I would get a second opinion from another vet - not everone knows everything!!! Also you might ask for a referal to a secialist. Best to you and your love

Russell,

My Dad's cat Tigger had a similar problem. His pupil was dilated and he had lines in the white of his eye. The vet said it didn't seem to bother him so we never did anything about it. It didn't seem to effect his sight either. Please let me know what the specialist says. I'd be interested to find out.

Having a medical background, usually a dilated pupil is an indication of a neurological problem. I don't know if that is the case in cats though.

Thanks for the replies.

Basically, they don't know what's wrong with him!
His right eye has nearly gone back to normal now though, and he still seems perfectly happy. The specialist basically said that we could run lots of tests, but they wouldn't know what they are looking for. It's not glaucoma.
We're going to just keep a close watch on him now and if there are any signs of a problem it's straight in for blood tests.

Russell.

You know, reading this thread for a second time, I just remembered that the same thing happened to my dog a long, long time ago. (I was just a teenager then.) It gradually went back to normal, and he lived to a ripe old age of 13. Hopefully the same will happen with your cat. Keep us updated.
