I took her to the vet and she was very vocal, a lot more spunk then last time, and the vet noticed it too, said she looked "happier" and more "thrifty" whatever that means, I'm guessing spunkier which was good, but she did not like the puffiness and the feel of the area on the left side of her mouth and above her left eye, she said she thought the swelling would come down more and she also told me that she suspects it may be more than a tooth/mouth issue, it might be a form of the cancer that she had 4 years ago coming back which is not what we wanted to hear, but she said she is not 100% certain and the only way to know for sure is to take her to a dental specialist an hour away and they would let us know what they think and take a biopsy, but Deb & I are not jumping at the chance to do that to her, we want her to be comfortable and not in pain and are going to order some mushroom supplements that are very good for the immune system and are in the cat cancer supplements that we see, and years ago Serenity had a brain tumor and some vet recommended them to us and with that and Prednisone she lived a year and a half and it was a good quality of life, so we are going to give that a try. We'll talk about the other option I mentioned but I don't think it will go too far.

But she gave her another antibiotic shot to see if it would help and I said that was okay to do that, maybe it will help who knows. So we will see where this leads but after what she has been through in her life especially these last 4 years and conquered I'm betting on her! :agree:

Since you are already exploring alternative therapies, you may want to have a look at the products at Vitality Science.
Natural Supplements & Vitamins For Cats With Cancer | Vitality Sciences

Although these are under the cancer subheading, Vitality Science are of the opinion that cancer is best fought by strengthening the immune system rather than suppressing it like pred and chemo do.

ES Clear is another one I have heard good things about but never got to trying it with Krista. 😿

Yes, that is also what the makers of Transfer Factors Plus feel too, and we had good results with it with Serenity and her brain tumor years ago! A vet that is more into "natural" things near us suggested it years ago.

Thank you!!

She has been somewhat lethargic but I am sure that it is from getting that second shot of the Convenia antibiotic, it can knock them for a loop and her being older I think hits her harder, but she is still eating and responds when we pet her or pick her up and talk to her, she just needs rest to get over that shot, last time it took the better part of a week for her to perk up so I expect the same this time too. I wasn't crazy about her getting it but I understand why she did it, hoping it helps her and that swelling some more if it can.

The Transfer Factors Plus is supposed to be in tomorrow so we will start her on that, it really helped Serenity like I said with a brain tumor. I think she is going to be pretty good, she is tough we know that, and I also saw there is a holistic vet locally that works with cats and natural and alternative treatments so I am going to store that information, maybe give them a call and see what they think.

But I keep telling her "we got this Sugar", and based on her past record of cheating death I bet on her!!! :) :rbheart: :hugs:

And Sylvester is being so good with her, so polite and patient, I believe that he understands the situation and is being so so good with her and with getting his eye drops, what a good boy he is!!! :clapcat:

This morning I had to follow her around to see if she wanted to eat, and she finally did. But I know she is still dealing with the side effects of that antibiotic shot, plus I also realized, maybe she doesn't want to eat when we think she has to or more like when we have time to feed her?! She does finally come around to eating and this morning I was getting ready for work so Deb who had off was taking over for me and she came into the bathroom and told me that Sugar was actually eating out of some of the cat bowls like she used to do, and this was after she ate for me so that is WONDERFUL!!! When I came home from work she told me that she ate supper and ate some of the Transfer Factors Plus supplement that came in so that also is WONDERFUL news!!

She also told me that she held her for a long time and was hugging her and rubbing her neck and Sugar was purring away until she had had enough and squirmed to get down, and I told her "that's what she needs" and Deb said "that's what I need" and she is right, we ALL need to lean on each other and let her know we are here for her as well as for each other. So I am thinking in a few days she will be feeling better, it'll take time for the after effects of that shot to wane and time for the pill to start working, but I think, hope and pray that she will stay strong, gain some weight and hang around here with us as long as she feels it is what she wants to do. And we'll figure out the feeding schedule a bit better too, that was interesting this morning though and a very good sign and this is without any appetite stimulant!!

Noticed her sneezing yesterday and a bit this morning again, not much today but we are sure it is from the stress and the shot kicking things out and now the Transefer Factor supplement but she still ate some and got the Transfer a bit, but we have to give it time; I said to Deb "it'll get worse before it gets better" and I read the Convenia shot has a half life of almost 7 days so that is still working against her, we have to give it time for her to recover from this last vet trip just like she did the one 2 weeks ago and she will I'm sure.

But she came upstairs and explored the bedroom with me, and talked back when I talked to her so she is on her way back! And right now she is in the open screened window, getting some air and listening to the birds....

We have kind of hit a wall at least for now, she is okay, she is eating when we feed her without any stimulants, the swelling on the side of her mouth and above her eye seem to be going down which is great news, but she sleeps a lot and doesn't move too much, but older cats will do that we know. But she was better and moving around until last Tuesday night and that was after she got that second shot of Convenia antibiotic, and I know that can knock them for a loop and takes time to clear their systems, and I did put in a call to the vet asking how long this should take. We know she wanted to give her another shot just to make sure any mouth infection was wiped out, but it seems to really be knocking her. Plus we are now giving her Transfer Fctors Plus to naturally help with her immunity so that also is at play, but if I lay on the floor and scratch her neck and pet her she does respond somewhat and purrs and yesterday walked around a little bit, but we hope that in a few days when that shot fades away more she will perk up, last time it took about 10 or 11 days for that to happen after the shot.

Thank you! Right before we left for work Deb was petting her and talking to her, she likes to lay in between a chair and a buffet, you know how they like their little secluded spots! And then I laid down on the floor with her and was petting her and talking to her and she came out and walked into the kitchen slowly, stretching as she went, so she does move around, and who knows what she does when we aren't home, we just see her then!

This morning I called a holistic vet to get some information, told the girl about her and asked some questions, they said it would take about 2 weeks to get her in so I put it on hold but then called back and decided to make one, I could always cancel in plenty of time if needed, and this was another girl who kept asking my name and saying "I can't find you in our system" and I said "I'm not in your system, I'm new" and she said "oh, I'm sorry, we're not accepting any new patients" to which I said "I wish the other girl would've told me that and saved me telling my long story" :mad2: :argh:

But then I think maybe it is someone trying to tell me this isn't a good idea, that's why I can't go! :dunno:

Just an update on Sugar, I read the other day that it is not recommended to give Transfer Factors Plus to animals, I even contacted the company and they said it is only for humans and to contact my vet about it. Well my vet knows nothing about it so I contacted the vet that told us about using it years ago and she said we can still use it, she stopped recommending it when it started selling on Amazon for whatever reason, but said they used to make animal specific formulas but they stopped doing that, so I researched and found MANY other companies that make formulations for cats so I ordered her some of that, Deb and I just feel better about that for some reason.

She is feeling better now that the second Convenia shot is wearing off, just like last time. Is moving around some more, eating more, even going into the kitchen to eat from the other bowls, is drinking and using the litter box, likes to lay in a spot next to a buffet so she is "sheltered" but also lays on chairs and likes to lay in a Chewy box of course! We can tell that her vision is bad, Deb saw her walk into a few of the other cats and also part of a wall, and we knew that it wasn't the best so we don't move too many things as she has a "blueprint" of the house layout. Whatever that is on the side of her mouth is still swollen but I don't think as much as before, so maybe that Transfer was helping, but we haven't given her that since we read what I stated above but will give her the new mushroom supplement when it comes in. She does look better, she is filling out a bit, not quite as thin, and all we can do is make sure that she is somewhat comfortable, make sure she is eating and drinking and using the litter box and love her up and let her know that we are here for her, hopefully the supplements we are giving her are helping and can keep whatever this thing is at bay, but we both agreed we aren't going to put her through any extensive testing or surgeries or treatments, not after all she has been through and at age 16 or 17, it would be way too much stress on her and us so we will take care of her and when the time comes that we see she is suffering and it is getting out of control and her life quality is not good we will address it, we aren't there yet and hopefully we have some more time with the old girl. :rbheart: :)

There is good and bad. She is eating and drinking and moving around a bit more, even jumps on her chair and a recliner, but her eyesight is getting very bad, she is walking into things now, we expected it since she had issues with her sight since that horrible reaction to anesthesia 4 years ago, but it is hard to watch. But she looks better, is standing more now and looks sturdier, her head used to look big in comparision to the rest of her body but it is evening out more now. But today Deb got very upset as she saw her left eye was turning out to the side a bit, she thought it was from a tumor getting worse since that is on her left side where she has that swelling (which isn't as swollen lately though) but I looked it up and I read where that could be the third eyelid having some issues, and several days ago she had a LOT of clear discharge in that eye and the last two days was sneezing a lot, like 12-15 times in a row, and I read a vet posted that this correlates with third eyelid issues, but the discharge is gone and she seems better actually. We started giving her a very good made for cats mushroom supplement called "5 defenders" which is supposed to help cancers and tumors and inflammation and give energy, she has been on it about a week or so and I swear she is looking better and looks better, and I know our nerves are really frazzled right now with life, but I think the discharge and sneezing and the eyelid issue is possibly being kicked out by these mushrooms stimulating her immune system, and possibly her walking into things might be because of it too?

But in general if we look at the positive she IS getting somewhat better,it is slow but at her age and what she has gone through it will take time, she isn't hiding or not eating, she is being herself and she hasn't been active much these last years anyway, but she still seems okay, she laid in her favorite Chewy box today and like I said still jumps up on her favorite chair and a recliner and she wouldn't do that if she didn't feel up to it.

It is VERY taxing, trying our best to take care of her the best that we can. :rbheart:

Tomorrow I'm going to call the vet to get her in and looked at, she has had some sight issues before but not as bad as this is now but it really started worsening a few days ago and this is also when her left eye was really pushing out clear mucus and now seeing her third eyelid like it is, I am sure that they would be able to give us some sort of eye drop to help her and maybe that would improve her ability to walk around? She still eats, drinks, uses the litter box, climbs up onto her favorite wicker chair, jumps up onto a recliner so she still is doing things, I don't think it is the end of the line yet but she needs to be seen and given either an antibiotic or steroid eye drop. I didn't think she would have an eye infection since she had been on Convenia but who knows maybe that weakened her immune system and she got it? She has been on "5 defenders" mushroom supplement for her immune system for about 8 days or so which will help, but I think she just needs a little more help directly in the eye via drops.

This is so so hard, we are trying to keep her afloat the best that we can, I STILL believe that she is in there...we put a Refresh eye drop in her eye awhile ago and she fought like crazy for a little cat, as usual!
