If she seems like she's ouchy, give it another go :) I'll post this article in case you aren't familiar;

35 Signs That Your Cat May Be In Pain – TheCatSite Articles
Thanks for this! Deb actually had a great idea, she put her liquid pain meds in a Squeeze Up and mixed it in and she ate it last night and this morning so if that works that's great!

She also actually jumped right up to her chair that she sleeps on, she usually steps on another cat bed thing and climbs up but she jumped directly up so that is a good sign! Her eye is very gunky now and her mouth is draining but I told Deb that is the antibiotic pushing bad stuff out, it has to "get worse before it gets better", so we just take care of her the best that we can, and I'm sure the vet will call today to check on her so I'll also run it by them.

Thank you!

You both are terrific and I'm glad Sugar has you 🤩 !
Thanks but we are also lucky to have her, she's our "miracle" cat like I said she almost died years ago from that horrible reaction to anesthesia, she stopped breathing for about a minute because the breathing tube in her throat got clogged with mucus, and she had a seizure days later, has sight loss from that all but she is still here, and we really love her and want to get her back from this latest problem, all we can do is help her the best that we can, she can't go through any surgeries and be put under as it would most likely do her in so we treat her with the meds and love her up and hope for the best, we are still heartbroken from losing Sabrina a month ago so our nerves are still pretty frayed, but this is the best we can do for her, help her, give her time to feel better and give her love, LOTS of it!

And again the other night at the vet I saw that she still has spunk, still is a fiesty little fighter, and the vet said "that's what got her through that ordeal" years ago. She's still in there, we need to help her to bring it out even more. :rbheart:

She is moving around a bit more now, eating what she wants to eat and how much, but she is more active than she was and it will take time, she is at least 16 and was through a lot over the years but she is slowly showing little signs of improvement, let's keep it going!!! :crossfingers: :rbheart:

She is thankfulluy showing signs of getting better every day, she looks better, she actually came out and jumped up in Deb's lap last night which meant she had to climb a cat scratching post type step thing and jump onto the sofa and then Deb's chair, and later she jumped up onto the recliner by herself and is moving around somewhat more but also lays around and sleeps a lot, but actually that's what she did before this happened as she is older so we don't expect her to be a ball of fire, we just want her better and comfortable. This morning she came out towards the kitchen when I was feeding the rest of them and ate a good amount on her paper towel and if that's how we have to feed her then that's what we do. We give her a mix of Recovery and Fancy Feast but started to give mostly Recovery since that is what she prefers at this point and it will beef her up again, but I mix vitamin and powdered fish oil with it and she is eating, but we can tell her mouth still is bothering her somewhat, but tomorrow will be one week on the antibiotic shot and she goes back for a recheck July 5th so we will see then, but we clearly see signs of getting better, but we of course still tear up and think bad things but we have to focus on the little signs of improvement and the positive, it is easier to dwell on the bad as you know!

This morning after she ate we couldn't find her and she was laying in a basket by the fireplace, she has never gone in there before. When we came home we couldn't find her again, and she was upstairs behind a wicker basket, she has never gone there before. I told Deb to "just let her do what she wants to do, that's her way of dealing with something I guess"?

Yea, I think so. :lovecat4:
I looked it up and it said cats will do this (move around) and where she is now upstairs is warmer, she might have been cold yesterday afternoon since we had the air conditioner on and she only weighs about 8 pounds now! Other ones go up there too and we tell them "you're crazy!" as it can hit 90 degrees up there!

Tonight she ate very little, doesn't seem to want to eat and is moving her mouth like it is bothering her. I called the vet office but they were closed, just wanted to run it by them. I also called a vet right down the street from us who did a remarkable job with Snickers who had horrible teeth/gum issues, I talked to the receptionist and told her I don't want anyone contacting the vet that Sugar saw and I hope they don't, I told her "just have him call me and we'll talk", maybe he has some other ideas of what else we can do without surgery, they are very well known for their dental work so we'll see if he calls me and what he says.

I tried to get her to eat several things but she isn't interested, she did eat a little bit for Deb but not much at suppertime, but our old guy Simba doesn't always eat twice a day either, I think we are on edge about it and worrying a bit, but we'll see if she eats tomorrow morning. And after she did eat a little bit for Deb hours ago she went and stood in a litter box and was moving her mouth a bit, then jumped out so this must be bothering her.

And just now the receptionist from the vet that I called called back and said she talked to him and he said he would need to see her and then get her records, I told her I'd think about it and get back to her. I don't know if there would be anything else that he could do but no one can put her under anesthesia as she wouldn't survive it this time.

Ugh....

You can get her records (if you don't have them already), that part of it isn't an issue, I do all the time as a regular thing.

Maybe take him up on seeing her, he might have an idea ... :vibes: :hugs: --she's gotta eat.

Thanks for this!

She ate a lot yesterday morning and just a little last night, but nothing yet so far this morning. I think we perhaps are doting on every move that she makes and worrying thinking "she HAS to eat" whenever we give her food but that isn't going to be the case. But she is moving around, got in and out of the litter box with no trouble, jumped up on a corner table again, is moving around a bit and right now is sitting in a screened window 3 feet away from me enjoying the fresh air like she likes to do, and when I just looked at her I noticed that she moved her mouth again, the right side of it which is the opposite side of her issue, so that is still troubling her.

I am going to call the vet today and leave them a message and tell them how it is going, I am a bit surprised that they didn't call us but Deb says that is usually only when a cat has a procedure, but I also am going to ask about an appetite stimulant. She goes back for a recheck July 5th, but I want to see what they say.

Today I made a lot of calls in between work and the best that I got was a response from our vet saying they can refer us to a dental specialist but they would want to do chest x-rays first to see if she has cancer or something else going on, but we are so reluctant to put her through much of anything. They said we can try pain meds again but we have to mix them in with her food and if she doesn't eat that fails, so I asked if we could use appetite stimulant that we have here and they said that is fine. I asked how long if she goes without eating should we be concerned and they said if she is on the stimulant and doesn't eat for 2 days let them know. But again, this morning Deb saw reddish (could be from the dry food color) vomit in the kitchen but we don't know if that was her or one of the other ones, and yesterday morning and the day before she really ate a lot, so it is just so strange that she went from that to not wanting to eat unless maybe her stomach is upset?

We will try the stimulant and see how she is. She came into the kitchen several times this morning like she wants to eat but didn't, and now she is upstairs behind a wicker basket just like yesterday. When Deb went up to see her when we came home from work she lifted her head and was pushing her head into her hand, so we are stumped and quite frankly a bit scared, we know we almost lost her due to that HORRIBLE reaction to anesthesia 4 years ago and don't want to do anything rough on her, but again the last two days as I keep saying "I see her, she's still in there" as she was moving around more. If only we could help this mouth issue WITHOUT surgery but I don't know how?

I'm SO keeping my fingers crossed that this works :alright:
Deb just tried some of the Recovery food and she ate it without any meds or vitamins in it so that is a start!! She wanted to try it before she put any stimulant on her ear, she ate some, walked downstairs and then went right back up but she ate some thank God!

She is acting very much like Snickers did about 5 weeks ago before he had his dental work done, gets startled, jumps and jogs away from the food, and the vet said they rate dental issues from 1 to 4 with 4 being the worst and said "he's a 5", so I am sure it is her mouth pain that is making her act neurotic just like he did.

It will be almost impossible to help her without surgery. They have to see somehow in her mouth to see what is bothering her. As long as she is eating a little that is good. When my Yammy gets so deathly sick from his leukemia, he survives somehow on just a couple of licks of treat a day. Ask your vet about twilight anesthesia, where they don't have to be put under as far, that may be an option. It could have been the kind of anesthesia they used too, try to find out what it was and how much was used. There are many different brands and kinds of anesthesias. Try those lickable treats to see if that would tempt her, they just need to be licked up. I use delectable Lickables in the stew flavors.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. The only cat I had with something like this had oral cancer and prednisone helped a lot. Keep up on the antibiotics, that would help an abscessed tooth. My heart aches for what you two are going through, I know how worrisome this all is. I'll pray for that sweet girl, I pray God will give you a little more time with her. She knows she is loved and that is the best comfort you can give her right now.
