Stuck in Trees

Is there a way to prevent my cat from climbing high up into trees? My cat Monkey (ironically) got stuck in a tree yesterday, and fell from a limb. Luckily it was only a 4-5 foot fall with no injuries. However, she has a limp tail and it messes with her balance sometimes. I fear that one day she will climb too high and fall to her death. She was an outdoor cat before I got her, and she refuses to come indoors and stay inside.

If these are particular trees in your own yard, you can put a piece of smooth metal around the trunk, or just chicken wire. There are some online things you can buy, or make.

The cheapest way I found was to get some of that flexible corrugated plastic that garden centers sell and nail that to the trees. The cats can't get their claws into it, so slide back down.
