- "giving him a toy" is only giving a toy.... it will not teach him anything, much less not to scratch and bite (nip) your hand - or, anyone's hand. He needs to be taught directly what is not appropriate, and you can learn how to do that.
If you were to copy your post back there (#39) and use it to start a new thread in the "Behavior" forum, I think you'd get some knowledgeable folks' recommendations on feline education.
