A very good friend of ours has been feeding a stray cat at their home. The cat has lost most of its hair and has not been eating for about the last four days. They do not have the money to spend to take it to a vet . I have contacted multiple local groups/agencies on their behalf and have had no luck. Can anyone advise a general approach to helping this cat in lieu of a visit to the vet? There are many stray cats in their neighborhood but this one in particular has taken a liking to them and vice versa. They simply do not have the funds to take the cat to a vet.

The situation is somewhat urgent because we don't think the cat is doing very well. Any advice or assistance you are able to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Another option of getting money, is you raise the money; using your influence... Say, you garantee the loan, waiting for if your try to raise money from some other source suceeds. I mean, its rather hurry as you say...

Next, if the cat has taken fancy on them, is it handleable?
Cats in severe need often DO accept help...

If so, they could try to handfeed it... Use kmr or goats milk to begin with... Raw goats milk if you can find it. (raw goats milk is pricey, but HAS some extra advantages healthwise.
