Of course the cruiser came to a screaming halt with all four tires flat, which the kittens had deflated earlier and  black and grey kittens then managed to get back into Ruby's car just as the Teddy Bear was tossed.

 

[mservant]

'Crikey Rubes, that was way too close!' cried Scarlett as she patted and fluffed up the two little kittens who were panting away in her lap with the most excited and proud expressions on their wide eyed faces as they lapped up the congratulations they had been met with as they scrambled back in through the car window.

Back on the road headed towards the cabin now, knowing all too well that talking teddy blabbed to that cop all about what they had seen, how Kitty was with Carl and on the run, how they were headed to the cabin to look for the 2 fugitives, and so on, as the 2 kittens caught their breath they were chattering like magpies at their braveness and deflating the cop's tires!!

Ruby was very focused on driving now, and mumbled, "It was that darn rat fink Teddy Bear's fault, everything was under control until he tried to open his mouth again,  so let's just get to the cabin, and see what happens".

 

[mservant]

So as the car steadily made its way to the cabin the kittens huddled in to a pile between Scarlett and Daisy on the back seat, initially squirming with excitement at the tales of bravery and daring from their two heroes, but within minutes the furry pile had transformed in to a  slow-breathing, purring pile of baby cats  with full bellies, fast asleep and dreaming of their day's adventures.

Before they knew it, Daisy and Scarlett were fast asleep too, but not for long, as the roads, once smooth and the only sound heard was the low whining of the tires, turned into a bumpy dirt road only familiar to the owners of this cabin, set deep in the hills, unseen from the roads, covered by tall green trees,that in the darkness, gave sort of a spooky, haunted atmosphere, the long, windy road, they knew, they were nearly there...

Ruby was so conflicted by this point, slowly winding the car towards the cabin, was she worried that Kitty had every right to be angry with her for having stolen Kitty's high school boyfriend, or was she more concerned about getting Carl and the dogs back from Kitty, and what if that dreaded Teddy Bear was now part of some search crew...

OMG hilarious...that dreaded teddy bear!! haha!

Perhaps it was simply her own guilt, afterall, Ruby betrayed her friend's trust deeply, but as the car approached the cabin, in the pitch darkness of the upward winding dirt road, climbing higher and higher...then suddenly from out of the darkness something slammed into the side of the car, OMG was it a deer, no, it was Kitty, screaming and desperately pleading for help, her face dirty with tears, her clothes torn and ragged, what happened here!!!

 

[cat nap]

Kitty jumped into the passenger seat and through tears cried out "Carl's dead, or injured or disappeared, he was driving too fast and went off the road, down by the lake, remember that turn off where we used to fish", she could not be consoled and went into shock.

(I am so rooting for a happy ending...but how...

Ruby shouted at Kitty to shut the door, as she sped out and continued on the winding road to the cabin, as the road was too narrow to turn around now and go see if they could find Carl down by the lake.

 

[cat nap]

They all got to the cabin safely, and Ruby hopped out of the car, to go look for the key in one of those flower pots by the side door, she had grabbed a flashlight from the glove box, and noticed Kitty just staring, she knew they had to get her inside and start the fire, so only Daisy followed, while Scarlett stayed in the car to watch over Kitty and the kittens.

Ruby sorted out a basic plan, with Daisy taking Kitty and the sleeping pile of kittens in to the cabin and Ruby and Scarlett heading out in to the dark to see if they could find any sign of Carl or the police car.

 

[cat nap]

Ruby and Scarlett hop back into the car, wind their way down the road and turn off for the spot that Kitty mentioned last, with Scarlett asking,"  Rube, what are we going to do, if and when we find him, this is such a mess, first they steal a police car, then we get stopped, and that Teddy Bear was just too mouthy, ...I am so confused?

 

[mservant]

'I don't know about that bear being mouthy' Ruby replied, 'but I sure can hear those dogs barking and they don't sound happy right', but before she could finish her sentence both women stood, frozen to the spot as their eyes fixed on Carl the bar man walking up the bank towards them.

 

[cat nap]

Before he reaches the two women, Carl is about to say something, but gasps and collapses in a heap on the edge of the bank.

 

[fhicat]

In his right hand was a frozen banana.

The two women struggled to pull Carl into their car, his clothes were soaking wet so this was really difficult, but finally manged to roll him into the back seat, both ladies fully aware that Carl must have drove off the road and right into the lake, where his car surely must have sunk.

 

[mservant]

They could hear the dogs barks getting closer and quickly decided it would be better to get Carl back to the cottage and warmed up, and try to put some food out for the dogs later as they sounded like they were in better condition than Carl was and the last thing they wanted was a body on their hands.

 

[cat nap]

But Scarlett was pretty hungry at this point, so she quickly ran to where the frozen banana lay, grabbed it and ran back to the car, and they were off to the cabin in a flash.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch....cabin, the women were busy lighting pilot lights, folding the sheets which covered the furniture, of course Scarlett dove her head into the cupboards to find something she might be able to whip up, but found diet Pepsi, she quickly popped a can open and downed half a can.
