Hi. Yes, it is always best that they eat what they will eat instead of trying to get them to eat the “right “ thing.
IBD can cause severe diarrhea. It could also be from the bacteria overgrowth. Without more invasive testing which I don’t think would be good for your cat, meaning biopsy etc. I would think discussing treating both with your vet would be best.
But, please remember, I am not a veterinarian and have not examined your cat and don’t have all the education and experience and knowledge a vet would. I can only tell you my experiences and opinions but always discuss things with your vet.
I am curious what the thyroid test comes back as.
