My 1 yr old is always so squirmy. She is a lap kitten, but she rolls and squirms anywhere she is. She lays on the bed or my lap, belly up for pets and squirms. She sits and waits for head, back ,etc scratches and then after 10 seconds tops she squirms around like a pig in the mud! She is not in pain, it is a reaction of enjoyment. But....will she ever outgrow this and be STILL? Even her mother goes in another bed or room to get some rest from her ! She is always in motion.
Do they outgrow this?

Maybe, maybe not.
My boy that I adopted is around 6 or 7 years, and he's pretty squirmy too. Constantly moving into my hand and finding where he wants me to pet him. Rolling over, turning to bump my hand. It's cute, but yea, i get it, you just want them to stop and enjoy the moment!

Thanks for the reply. At 6-7 yrs old I guess it is not just a kitten thing. I was thinking.."Geez..no replies? People must be saying "She knows nothing about cats".
But then her mom who is 2 is so laid back and calm even though young herself!
I guess it is just her nature...energetic
Thanks for the reply.

Nah, sometimes the forum can be slow to replies. Nothing against you at all!
My other two cats like to settle and curl up and let me pet them without feeling fidgety. I guess its based on their personalities!

Maybe yours will settle down as she ages. She is a kitten and a bundle of energy!

I've had my cat Binks for about 1.5 years. I got him from outdoors in my yard and the vet said he was a couple years old plus he had already been TNR'd..

He has always been a bit hyper and whiny. He started out by laying on my lap for maybe 2 minutes, wriggling around and not settling but wanting to be petted. Fast forward to the last couple months and he is better, will lay on my lap, head nestled in my right arm while I brush or stroke him but the longest he'll stay is 15 minutes.

He has certain times of the day that he wants me time and will follow me around, almost tripping me and meowing. We do need to be separate from the other 2 cats for him to have his time with me and then he's good for a few hours.

I love squirmy! She’s just energetic. I’ve never met an old squirmy. I think it could be about nerve endings. I’ve met kitties that just looooove to be petted, but who feel it so, like static electricity, that they can’t take it for very long. Even, sometimes, having a conversation with a squirmy can be bliss, if the tone is right! It tickles their ears. I say accept your squirmy for who & what she is, she will calm down. (And you may one day yearn for the ‘old days’ of squirmyland). :)

I’ve got a seven-month old kitty who I’ve always described as “squirrely”. I love it though because he’s always flopping, rubbing his head against me, and rolling onto his back. My other cat is not very demonstrative, so I find this behavior endearing.

nwengel nwengel squirrelly would be a good word for Phoebe. She’ll squirm around on her back occasionally (usually related to pre- or post-poo zoomies) and she loves zooming up onto my shoulder when I’m sitting down and burying her head in my neck, or washing my face.

She’s ten!

ETA - like right now.
