I have a question about Zevo cat spray. We have had bad ant problems in our house for a while. A few days ago, my husband sprayed Zevo in his bathroom, where my cat doesn't go often, and then he had to spray it again yesterday because the ants keep coming back. He closed the door so the cat couldn't get in there. My cat threw up this morning, but it could have been unrelated/hairball.

I found ants on my spare bed in my office today where my cat lays a lot and washed the spread. I sprayed some Zevo around the windowsill, and before I could stop her my kitty hopped i the window sill because I opened the window to get rid of the horrid smell. I had wiped the excess of the window sill, but I still pull her out and wiped her paws with a wet paper towel.

Should I be concerned about her exposure to the spray? I have seen some of the stories where a couple of cats have died, so please no alarm stories. I just want to know if I should be concerned about my cat's safety. She didn't ingest any directly, but got her paws on an area after I wiped it down, and then I wiped her paws with the damp paper towels as much as I could while she was fighting me and telling me how much she didn't appreciate it.

Hi
Does the product have a phone/email contact? This is from their website;
Powered by essential oils, Zevo Insect Killer Sprays are safe to use around people and pets (when used as directed).

They do, but I don't completely trust what they say because some of the ingredients in the spray, even though organic and essential oils, can be toxic for cats if ingested in certain quantities.

When I went to their website, I noticed that it frequently said *when used as directed, the asterisk being theirs. I have never used it, but is there a special instruction that goes with this like wiping it off after you spray, letting it dry, etc? I also noticed that the product reviews all said that it smelled terrible.

Cornmint is a member of the mint family and, as such, you probably need to use caution. My guess is that the concentration in Zevo might be low, but it still might be enough to be irritating or, in very large amounts, enough to cause a health problem.

Calling the company is not a bad idea. I have found that (big whistleblower myself) that most companies are concerned about complaints and will try to be helpful.

If the ants keep coming back, perhaps another tack is needed? Is there something tasty luring them in that could be contained? If they are the dreaded carpenter ant, you might have real issues…but if they are tiny and brown, then just be fierce about using soap and water and clean all surfaces, as those guys follow the trail scent.

They come into places that are completely clean. They were all over my bedspread where my cat likes to sit and look out the window and we use free and clear detergent. My hubby keeps getting them in the bathroom, so I think they're attracted to the water. We have to keep diatomaceous earth under our cat's food mat at all times or they get into her bowl. Anything she doesn't eat within an hour, we put back in her food dispenser, so we're cleaning as best we can. I keep the floors clear.

Jade seems okay today, so I think she'll be fine. We use the spray with caution around her, but sometimes we have no choice when they get everywhere. We get the microscopic ants most of the time, but lately it's been the garden variety three-segmented black ant.

I know it's a different story with dogs and cats, but my vet uses Zevo and he has 3 dogs. And he is a very good one (practice both regular/traditional/western medicine and holistic/chinese traditional).

I hope all the army of ants are going back to where they belong! Not inside of human home!

We had trouble with ants once, but placed shallow trays of water in the yard away from the house. The ants left. We figured they did want the water. But with shallow trays you'll need to check to fill them every day.

I would not use any ant spray for ants. Ants are easily killed with even diluted dawn dish soap. The thing is, killing the ants you see does nothing. You have to kill the queen ant and then the rest will die. This is best done using a bait. There are enclosed bait stations for ants. That would be a better option.

Products are often labeled as safe for pets when they are not. There is no “ all natural” plant/ essential oil that is safe for cats. Even though there are products like these labeled safe for cats.

I use Terro bait stations; in my house I have locations where they can be safely placed so that the cats never find them or have access to them. I do use Ortho Home Defense as a perimeter spray on the outside of the house only if there is an ant problem.
