My 5 year old female cat is getting spots on her iris. The black line around the iris has a big spot under it making it look thicker. Is this normal? The picture makes it look reddish, but it's all more brown including the area around the outside. They are similar colors in the light. I don't know how long they have been there.

In the first pic it looks a bit unusual, however, in the second one not so much. Eye abnormalities can also be a symptom of an underlying medical issue. If you have any concerns I would suggest contacting your vet or sending them the pics. Here is an Article that discusses eye problems: Eye Problems In Cats: What Every Owner Needs To Know – Cat Articles

I would definitely go to the vet if I were you, sudden change in eye color is something you should get checked out. It could be nothing, but still.

Did you take your cat to the vet? Do you have any update?

Where do you think?
This an older thread but it could be one of two things, melanoma or melanosis. Of the two melanoma is the dangerous and unfortunatly more common. Melanoma of the eye is treated by removing the affected eye. Ocular melanoma is very aggressive and can easily spread to vital organs.

My 7 years old cat got similar spot like this too, i don’t know exactly how long he got this. But i think since May last year(2023). I just took my cat to vet for vaccination and have mentioned the brown spot on his eye. The vet suggested to keep an eye on it, if it gets bigger, my cat need to see an eye specialist. I am worried because i am not so sure how long my cat has this brown spot. I don’t know if it gets bigger since last year as I didn’t pay attention on it. I live in Austria and there’s not a lot of eye specialist for animals near.

Try to take regular pics of the eye for comparison if you can.

This article will give you some warning signs to watch for if it were to be melanoma. There can be other ocular changes as well.

We are not vets and are not trying to scare you as we certainly don't know if this is melanoma. I would stay in touch with your regular vet if there is no eye specialist as they should be qualified to know if there are serious changes in the eye.
