Do I let my spayed female sorted a yr ago go outside into garden? There are 3 toms howling day n night waiting to approach her. She is keen also. Or do I keep her inside for few days howling desperate to get out?

No, don't let her out there. Intact toms see spayed female cats as intruders into their territory. They will attack her and try to chase her off. She could get lost or hurt badly. If they bite her she could end up with infections, FIV, FeLV or something equally dangerous.

Spayed cats don't usually display heat symptoms if the spay surgery was done correctly. Does she regularly seem as if she's in heat?

If your spayed cat is acting like she is in heat, have her checked for an ovarian remnant.

When I adopted Delilah she acted like she was going into heat almost 1 week on, 1 week off. When they tested her, the hormones showed that she was producing hormones like being in heat, even though she was spayed. I took her to a veterinary internist, who did a sonogram and found a remnant of ovary tissue hiding behind a kidney. He referred Delilah to a specialist surgeon who removed the tissue, as well as some scar tissue left from her original spay (in case there were some cells in there as well). Apparently since then no more heat cycles.

Your general vet can do the blood test, but for sonograms and surgery, see specialists. A generalist did an exploratory surgery and found nothing even though the bloodwork said there was something. It took the specialists to find and remove it. Had I known, I could've saved Delilah a surgery and me more stress.

Thanks for advice. I spoke to the vet. Who said see how it goes and if it happens again in 3 weeks after this cycle ends. My Sukie is driving me mad howling to get outside, she is always out playing. The 3 toms are outside day n night waiting for her. Its such a long time to keep her indoors, several days. Only day 3 today. I.m tempted to let her out. I.m pretty sure she cant get pregnant. But not nice to watch 3 cats at her taking turns. She got out y.day quickly when I opened door to garden.I.ve hose pipe ready but she cleared off 3 hrs . I.m like a prisoner in my own home. This is reason why I had her spayed a yr ago. Marilyn n Sukie.

So, she's displaying heat symptoms and the tom cats are actually mating with her?

That sounds like something was left behind when she was spayed. You really need to take her in for tests to find out what is going on. Even if she can't get pregnant cats can still get Feline AIDS and Infectious Feline Leukemia from mating with feral tom cats so please be careful. These diseases are fatal and incurable. It's really not worth taking that kind of risk with her health.

She may not display heat symptoms normally. Delilah showed them for about a week, then was normal for a week. And as a first time cat owner... and first time female pet owner (all my pets from the time I was a baby were male), this was frustrating and scary.

Besides, the bloodwork has to be done while she is experiencing the heat symptoms so they can measure the hormones.
