Hello everyone, our family is getting their first ever kitty ;) She is the most adorable little thing and we are very excited but also very nervous about this new chapter. She is a rescue, 3 months old and is extremely sweet. As a new cat owner I am very overwhelmed by the whole subject of cat litter and would appreciate any recommendations on what the best litter is to use, etc. Any helpful tips and tricks regarding owing a cat are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yay! You've come to the right spot for all things cat. Now is a good time to kitten proof a little bit. Also to come up with some house rules (for humans and cat). Everyone here will help with any questions that arise!

Hello there. I’m new here too. Everyone seems pretty nice and supportive here. Your new kitty is just old enough to use clumping litter but try to be aware if it is consuming it. Most are fine with it by then but just keep it in the back of your mind for a little bit at first. I’m a strong believer in non scented litter. If you scoop every day there is no need for it. Remember that cats sense of smell is much better than us humans and their nose is only inches from the litter instead of feet. My sister swears by corn based litter because you can just scoop it in the toilet and flush it.
Excited to see pictures of your new kitty

Welcome! I actually came here last night and had searched out the two articles that rubysmama rubysmama gave you, and when I started to post my internet went down! But you have the information, and I'll just say what a pleasure it is to have you with us! Now, don't forget to post lots of pictures. At THIS site, there is no such thing as "too many cat pictures!" And we'll want to know her name, when she tells you what it is!

Hi, welcome to TCS! I think everyone has already covered the bases, but you can ask any questions that come up along the way. I have a total of eight cats, ranging in age from a little over a year to unknown. Some are inside only and others, like Oscar who refuses to stay in, stay out. He has a cat fence, so he doesn't leave the backyard. I believe you'll enjoy our friendly community.

Congrats on your pending new addition. I would ask those who are currently taking care of her what litter they are using and what food she has been eating. Continuing three same brands at your house at least initially will make the transition easier for her. You can also ask them which toys she seems to favor so you can have some of those ready for her as well.

I would also read a few articles on kitten proofing your home.

:hellosmiley: and welcome to the forum! I hope you find it useful. Adding to susanm9006 susanm9006 's advice, ask about what brand of kitty food they're giving her as well. That way, if it isn't the brand you'll be using eventually, you can slowly transition to the new food by mixing the two together. She'll need wet food or a mix of wet and dry - wet gives cats some moisture and is more filling, so reduces the chance of them becoming overweight.

This is just an opinion, but I would personally get ceramic or metal food and water dishes and avoid plastic ones. Plastic ones can get scratched and become harder to clean thoroughly, which can cause feline acne.

Once you get your kitten, you can post pictures on this board - we'd love to see her!

Our little princess peaches (my son gave her the name as we also have a dog named Luigi) is the absolute best!! I am madly in love with her 😻 She is purring all the time, very affectionate and just a pure joy to the family. Here are some pictures.

Welcome to this amazing site! I'm certain you'll find a wealth of info and support. As far as litter, I've tried a lot. I found Tidy Cats unscented litter to be the best for litter box smells. The light weight version tends to roll around and get scattered far and wide. I use the regular weight for my boy.

Welcome to the site! Peaches looks adorable! I'm in a similar situation to you, only I've been catless for 13 years until 3 weeks ago. I'm finding myself relearning cat care! So much good info on the forum and people know their stuff! :D. You're in safe hands! Errr... paws! LOL!
