I'm not sure which would be better, honestly, maybe the qtip, try both and see which it prefers :)

To try and keep the schedule of feeding every two to three hours, you may need to wake it.

Do you have a box you could cut the sides down, or some other tray, and put some soil and/or sand in for her to use inside?

If she doesn't come back will you be able to keep baby warm, fed and it's little bottom cleaned?

Just in case, this has a lot of information;

You must not let the mother cat outside until the kitten is weaned and mom can be spayed.

Please get kitten formula and a small needleless syringe so that you can feed the kitten. A dropper will also work, but you really need proper kitten formula.

It’s okay for mom to take breaks as long as she lets the kitten nurse every couple of hours.

Found here!! The Tom male cat i mentioned earlier has actually pinned her to a place from where she couldn't come back. Got my cat, but parents heard me going upstairs at 3.30 am and just heard an exaggerated lecture.

It's not normal, when you touch it does it seem to cause pain? Could it be an insect bite, or an insect egg? Is it maybe where Mama's teeth got him?
