I have a male cat that is 17 years old. I had most of his teeth removed 7 years ago leaving just a few teeth and the canines. Recently his left eye was oozing clear liquid that turned to red puss. I took him into the vet and he had an abscess and two more bad teeth. He went through surgery, which was 2 days ago. Went I got home from work his entire eye was oozing red liquid like I have never seen before. I cleaned his eye and washed it out. This morning his eye is better, but still leaking some fluid. I guess what I am asking if they didn’t lance the abscess could that fluid back up in his eye? Do I possibly have something else going on like a cataract or Cancer? He is drinking water, eating some and using the litter box. He is still a little lethargic, but he’s still sleeping with me and seems to have pepped up in the last 12 hours. Any advice. I don’t my guy to suffer, but I don’t want to put him down if I can do something.

I would contact your vet ASAP and send some pics of what you are seeing. Did you get pain medication and antibiotics after his surgery and if so what did you get and are you able to give them to him.

I'm so sorry you are going through this with him and I hope everything turns out OK.

Hi. I echo the above advice about reaching out to the vet. You can find out if they did lance the abscess, but sometimes if not thoroughly eradicated, they can return. Although something else could be going on, it sure would seem his dental issue is connected to the eye fluid leakage.

Let us know what the vet says!
