Should I get a cat house?

I have two indoor cats and sadly cannot take in another. There’s a kitty that lives in our neighborhood, but she is stray and won’t let humans near her. I don’t feed her because I’m not always here (I travel and take my indoor kitties with me). However today I saw kitty prints in the snow and that made me sad. I’m considering buying her an outdoor cat house. Do I run the risk of raccoons getting in the cat house? Will she be safe?

Also, is it ok to feed her? Or will she become dependent on me and then go without food when I’m out of town? It’s illegal to “own” an outdoor cat in my town, but she’s already out there and I hate the thought of her being cold or having no warm bed. Advice welcome!

I would buy her an outdoor insulated cat house but that's just my opinion.

As far as raccoons getting in the house, it's always a possibility but in my couple years of experience with outdoor cat houses, if the cat is already in the house, the raccoon usually avoids the cat.

I feed the outdoor strays and ferals and they do come regularly to my house but then I'm home all the time.

Do you have the option to work with a local TNR or rescue organization that might be able to trap her and possibly find her a home?

I did get my second kitty from a rescue that does TNR. I’ll reach out to them and see if they can help.
Thank you!
