I know someone who used to subscribe to an Arizona newspaper, and watered her cacti whenever it said they had rain in AZ  . Of course now you can just check on the internet.

New cactus interesting growth. Growing in pink and growing some spines, too.

Updates on my mixed planter. All seem to be rooted and to have grown.

Very nice! I keep meaning to take some more pictures of mine but it's been raining for the past week or so. I like outdoor photos better, my house is a bit too dark to show off the cacti in all their spiny glory.

Most of my plants died :frown: I think my bedroom is too warm / too bright. I cant keep plants outside of the bedroom because Leroy eats plants if he's left unsupervised. All I have right now is the heart shaped Hoya succulent. My supervisor mentioned that she has way too many plants and they keep making baby plants so I can get a few plants from her. She definitely has a green thumb.

I hear ya, it is much brighter outside and makes for better photos. When you are able to take pics, I look forward to seeing updates Norachan Norachan !

LTS3 LTS3 What a bummer. I'm sorry. :alright: One of mine may have root rot starting and worried about losing it. We'll see what happens. Have you only kept succulents? I have friends that cannot keep succulents alive for the life of 'em, but do great with other plants. I'm the opposite were I never could keep other plants alive, but can with succulents.

If you end up getting some from your supervisor, please do share. :)

I can do well with orchids and air plants but not succulents. I think it is my tendency to overwater. With the orchids they aren't kept in soil so water runs right through, it really is just getting water into the medium that they are in and the rest runs out. With air plants there is no watering, just soak them in water.

My new cactus is being very suspicious and worried it is rotting. I'll be researching how to take care of this in the next few days. Crossing my fingers it survives.

My lithops are doing good! All the my friend gave me are all different in color and pattern. Before they looked similar, but definitely are distinct.

This one went through a growth spurt! It was the most wrinkled and wasn't sure if it would make it. Well, it definitely absorbed water and grew!

PXL_20210826_122818745.jpg

There other two, still smaller.
PXL_20210826_122823328.MP.jpg
PXL_20210826_122827491.jpg

And here's my older one. Still absorbing the old leaf, but I have watered because it kept getting wrinkly. It has absorbed water, so guess that's a good sign???
PXL_20210826_122836682.jpg

And all four, so you can see the size difference and difference in colors/patterns.

That makes a lot of sense. I either forgot to water my plants or over watered when I did. 😬 My friend who have a hard time with succulents love to take care of their plants. With succulents they love it if you forget to water them and then butt chug them, as long as soil is well draining.

Although, I did have an airplane once and I killed it after the first soak... It rotted... What is your technique to water them? What works for you?

I had various Pileas and they all died :( Air plants don't last long either. I had a few succulents but they died. The Hoya is doing well though. I can grow cat grass and that usually lasts about a week before Leroy eats it up.

I finally got around to taking some more pictures. I've realised it's a good idea to photograph plants because you don't always notice how they've grown until you compare old and new pictures.

This was taken about five years ago. The cacti with the pink flowers unfortunately succumbed to root rot
Cacti1_R.jpg

This was last summer.

This summer after a lot of outdoor time.

Cacti61_R.jpg

These two top and bottom left now fill four large bowls.
Cacti4_R.jpg

It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Cacti64_R.jpg

This year there are even some little yellow flowers.
Cacti65_R.jpg

This is just one summer's growth.
Cacti52_R.jpg
Cacti62_R.jpg

I think these two have doubled in size this year.
Cacti57_R.jpg

Happy looking little zebra striped plant. (Please excuse the cat!)
Cacti58_R.jpg

Little round spikies.
Cacti59_R.jpg

I picked these two planters up for about a dollar each. The succulents were a gift from a friend.
Cacti55_R.jpg

Oh, and a bonus picture. A couple of avocado pits were starting to sprout in the compost so I fished them out and put them in a pot. Now I have two avocado plants.
Garden324.jpg

So a little bit of rain didn't seem to do them any harm. They love being out in full sunshine all day. Hopefully it will be warm enough to leave them out for at least another month.

My supervisor seems to have forgotten about giving me one of her many baby plants but that's ok. I took a trip down to the gardening center today to browse the plants. There wasn't much this late in the season. Lots of air plants and succulents and cacti and plain foliage plants.

I don't really care for Eschervia succulents so I didn't buy any succulents today. I did buy two air plants and a mini Pilea:

And Mango the octopus has new legs

I'll browse the "Cave of Wonders" sometime this week for succulents.

The octopus air plant holder came from this Etsy shop.

Behold the Cave of Wonders

The succulents weren't healthy at all so I didn't buy any. They were some combination of shriveled, dried out, and brown / dead leaves.

I spot a Boston Fern in the top picture. I killed one of those many years ago. A friend told me she only had one do really well, got big with the draping fronds. She said she had it in a bathroom with a window. It was in a humid environment and got some sun.

Well I have succulents now  They're super easy to care for: just dust them off as needed  A friend sent me these faux plants.

20210915_155526[1].jpg

I took at a look at the flower shop by work. $15 for a typical standard African Violet? 😮 No thanks! I can buy an exact same plant at the supermarket for $5, likely less at the garden center.

Those are cool! I love that octopus.

Is that what it is? It's very pretty. We get some huge ferns around here, but they're the very tough outdoor variety. Some of the ones I have outside are about a meter in diameter. The cats love to sleep under them in the summer.

Bought myself a little cactus as a treat today. I need to find a decent pot for it as it's already out grown the one it came in.

Look what Trader Joe's has for Halloween :D $4.99 each and a variety of plants available, though selection will vary by store. Looks like a limited Halloween only item. Guess I need to take a trip to TJ this week ;)
