I have hens and chicks in my outside garden. They get a lot of sun, and survive winters. Last year I had a death bloom.
Wow, that's beautiful! What an amazing plant.
Do you do any special care to promote blooming for your cactus?
Not really, I use a potting soil that is supposed to be specifically for cacti and keep them out of the way of the cats. That's about all
My Calathea is loving its spot in the corner of the sunroom.
That's so pretty!

Here are a few pics of mine. This one gets a lovely red colour as the leaves mature.

The cacti that is flowering and maybe having more babies? 3 of last years babies broke off so I repotted them, but the ones still attached to the mother plant seem to be doing better. Now she's having babies again. (Little nub next to the flowers)
Garden310.jpg

They had cacti for sale in my local 100 yen shop today. I've been a good girl, I deserve more cacti.

These ones have all been with me for years.

Norachan Norachan love all your cacti and three cat planters! The new ones are too cute! And love how's there are so many different shapes and textures in one arrangement! I've been craving getting more. Can't wait to see the flowers once they are blooming!

My cacti babies are getting bigger, too. And also new babies popping out! I also may need to repot soon. This one had a thick, longer root last time I repotted and want to make sure it is still in an okay pot or if it needs an upgrade.

Lithops are also doing good! There the my friend gifted are now all done splitting! And need to be repotted. One is definitely thirsty, but crossing my fingers they all make it!
PXL_20210603_124207967.jpg

My oldest one is still chugging along and taking it's sweet time. So much more graceful than the others, LoL. <3

What do you do with your babies? Do you separate them and repot or leave them on the mother plant?

I found this gorgeous little dinosaur planter today. It was around $8 for the planter and the succulent and I've never seen this kind of succulent before.

I bought a similar dinosaur plater last year, so now he has a friend.

They had orange and purple dinosaurs too, but I used all my powers of self control and only bought one. I don't need to fill my house with dinosaurs and cacti. I'm a grown up. I won't do that.

Not sure yet. :) My plans for this week was to research it and decide what may be best, imo. I'd love to gift a baby cactus to my plant loving friend, but not sure if I should wait for them to get bigger before doing so. For my non cacti succulents, I was thinking of cutting off some of the offshoot babies and making a mixed planter. That depends when I have energy to do plant stuff though.

Dinosaurs!!! Soooo cute!! That would take a lot of power, LoL. Those look like really nice quality, too! Ah, being a grown up sucks some times. 😿

I'm pretty sure I'll be back there next pay day to get another one.
;)

Look what I found while I was walking in the woods! The remains of some ancient forest God.

He looks pretty good on the cacti shelf, amongst the dinosaur and other nick-nacks.

I think a few of my succulents need some attention. They've got very long and gangly and one or two of them have fallen over. Maybe time to behead them and see if they'll repot.

Norachan Norachan That skull is so unique! I love your setup with all the plants and the skull. Looks very cozy.

Any plans for the beheaded pieces?

The purple plant in the first dino looks like a Sedum of some kind. Bet if you broke off a piece, it would root and you'd have another.

I've been thinking about that today. I have one arrangement with a lot of straggly looking pieces, as well as a few other gangly succulents in pots of their own. When I gather up the courage I might redo the whole arrangement.
I think it's a sacroiliac, not a skull.
Actually, it's a deer's cranium, but I've got it positioned upside down. The face you are seeing is where the skull joined the spine and the nerves went from the brain to the rest of the body. It's pretty cool though, isn't it? Found it deep in the woods with a lot of other bones. I think she must have died a natural death and then been picked clean by scavengers.

If I could, I'd like to have the same thing happen to my body when I die. If my skull ends up in someone's cacti display that's fine by me.

That's what I'm hoping will happen. I'll just let it grow a little bigger first.

Both of my orchids have spikes, one has one and the other two. I kept looking at them because they looked different from new roots. They have just started to grow.

How exciting! Wonder how long before they'll be in bloom?

I think it will be awhile. They normally bloom in late fall but they don't normally start a spike this early. A spike is supposed to be triggered by a drop in temperature but with being indoors the seasons don't really mean anything. I started running my air conditioning constantly a couple of weeks ago, I think that is what triggered them to start a spike.

That's interesting that air conditioning would trigger the spike. Guess we'll see blooms in a few months then.

Moth orchids are native to the rainforests of southeast Asia and Australia. Cooling off and late fall and winter in those areas are nothing like what we are used to where we live.

Finally potted another gift plant I've had since Feb. 😅 And looks like it may be sending a couple flowers up???

A new one just received yesterday. It actually was about 5 plants in one, and this is the largest piece.

Cut some cuttings to make a mix planter, and also because some succulent stems looked sad and dying. So they were cut to save the plant and repot.

Sad pics of some of the stems.

Some of mine are looking a bit long and straggly like that W WillowMarie . It seems like I just finish attending to one planter full and then another one needs some love.

Repotted a few more plants. Boy did some have some nice roots! I also picked up some chicken grit and pea gravel, which will replace the perlite. Very excited the perlite is almost all used up!! The stones for added grit is so much more attractive to me.

The first is my cactus, with the largest roots and some thicker ones. Peeking through. Since there were so many, this taller purple container seemed perfect and will upgrade to something wider in a year or two as it grows wider. Topped with pea gravel.

PXL_20210720_193345437.jpg

Pretty big mass of roots as well. Those container seemed a tiny big, but loved the colors and hope they plant grows into it well. Topped with chicken grit. After I rinsed the grit it turned this beautiful color, and may change back into a deep gray once it dries again.

And this one only received a small upgrade because I loved the colors together and non of my other pots fit. Next year it will get another upgrade.

More pics in the next week or two as I have a lot of plants and new containers coming. Did a little retail therapy.

How's everyone else's plants? Anyone do pot upgrades recently or have interesting new growth or new babies appearing?
