Some updates. Lots of needing water, if you notice the wrinkles and shriveling leaves. It feels like some of them are much more thirsty in the winter. Anyone else feel like they are watering their succulents more? Maybe it is the decreased humidity in doors and the bright plant lights shining on them.

This is also what the mold looks like on my pots. Pretty sure it is not just mineral deposits from the water... :(

This one has beautiful coloration! It just turned purpleish this past week. Temperature change?? Not quite sure, but it sure is purrty!

Another little baby! Can you find the newest little one?? Above the other ones.

This little one is not supposed to be watered in winter, but keeps getting wrinkly... think I need to water soon???

Another pic, but without the flash. Closer to in-person color, but still more purple than this.

I bottom watered my Crassula yesterday and the leaves are still wrinkly today :confused2: There's quite a few dried hard leaves stuck to the stems too.

Lots of Red Twist Pepperomias at the supermarket today:

They cost less than what I paid for mine. I guess the decorate cache pot mine came in added to the price. These plants look so much better than mine. Mine has really droppy leaves at the moment :dunno: I haven't been able to Google out why. It gets watered when the soil is dry, it gets bright indirect light, the temperature is about 68F.

Succulents can be so strange sometimes. I'm having a similar problem with my burro's tail. It's leaves look dry so I water it but then it doesn't take in the water so the stem shrivels up as if I haven't watered it in months.

The Crassula is still looking wrinkly and more of the bottom leaves have shriveled up and died :dunno: My other succulents seem to be doing ok.

I think succulents don't do as well in the winter. Mine aren't doing as well either. My air plants are fine and my orchids are fine. Both orchids have dropped their blooms time will tell if I can get them to bloom again, the plants including roots still look good. One of the plant's spike still looks really good. The other plant's spike didn't make it, I pruned it down to the base. That was the orchid that had been dyed and I wonder if that had something to do with it, I know they inject the color into the spike before it blooms.

Many of mine have drying up leaves as well. Although mine have been soaking up water. Mine have lights on them which may warm them up, so maybe mine dint think it is true off season for them. How is the Crassula doing now?

Thought these rosettes are super cute. Growing nice and condensed.

Also, my lithops is wrinkly and makes me think it needs water, but you aren't supposed to water in winter and wondering if it is shedding? Anyone have experience with telling the difference?

Finally dropped off goodies for a friend, including the haworth is I potted in an owl planter for her. Her husband and her gave me some birthday goodies, which included plants!!!

Lithops <3 <3 <3 I believe I need to wait to repot until they are done splitting, but one already is getting in on the fun... can you see the new one within the one on the right???

20210208_125212.jpg

Some cuttings and leaves of one's she owns. Forgot to give her some of mine, although she focuses on lower light plants and need to figure out which of mine are lower light.

For those of you with Christmas cactus, any special propagation tips or is it a let sit and wait like most others?

And here is an update on my lithops, which is hopefully splitting. It is maybe separating in the middle???

Watered my wrinkly lithops as someone advised they need a minimum amount of water to split and it was getting pretty wrinkly. The next day it was less wrinkly, but then another couple days later noticed how full it looks! It is definitely not splitting yet as the Crack is full intact with no seperation yet, which is very evident when it is full of water.

Maybe it's a winter thing? Should I repot?

I'm down to just the succulents, air plants, Pilea, and the Pilea aquamarine now. The Pepperomia, mini African Violet and Venus fly trap all died :frown: On the bright side, I now have space to get more plants in the Spring

LTS3 LTS3 Interesting. What kind of light do they get? My crassula's have been absorbing water this winter, while some of my others have this same thing going on. What temperature is the room they are in? It definitely could be a winter thing and many of mine are doing similar, but not my crasullas, although maybe we have them in different conditions. My room is kept warmer because my hermit crab tank uses a heat lamp, which probably keeps the room warmer, plus the warmth of my plant lights. If your plants are getting cold enough to make them believe it is not their growing season, they may be dormant

I read somewhere that with succulents if they are not getting enough light they cannot utilize water appropriately, which makes me wonder if it could be a light thing, just to rule out. But if you repot, it may be a good idea to check the roots to make sure they look okay. Such as, if the roots started rotting, maybe the plant has been struggling to absorb the water.

Also, the stems appear read closer to the bottom but green on the top. Would you mind supplying another picture showing more of the stem, like a side picture? That may be of concern as some of mine that changed color stopped being able to absorb water. Others change color if their stem hardens as a natural process, but not sure if crasulla's do as mine haven't while other succulents of mine have. But maybe I'll double check mine just in case!

Bummer about your plant loses. Just means you have great reason to buy more plants... ;) And you are right about spring coming! I'm also excited to move my succulents back outside and will probably repot many of them as they have grown so much.

How are your other plants? Any fun growth progresses?

Actually, mine may have a slightly red, weird looking stem right now, too. I'll post pictures in a bit to see how they compare with yours.

The plant cart is in the bedroom that is about 68F. I usually have the cart in front of the slider door which face east. Too much sun maybe? I do have sheer curtains. The other succulents are ok.

No new growth with any of the plants. The Pilea seems to be doing ok. I think the previous one was exposed to too much direct bright light which caused the leaves to cup and droop. I now keep the Pilea on the dresser where it gets indirect light.

Maybe try increasing the light. My crasulla needs more light than my other succulents and is stretching despite a south facing window and grow lights. Temp. should be fine and should not trigger dormancy. South facing is supposed to get the most sun I've read, if you have one that gets good light. It not, maybe try keeping the curtains out of the way or putting the plant between the curtain and the window (if it won't be too cold right next to the window). Keeps us updated! Good luck

I do love lithops! W WillowMarie You are doing well with yours! Splitting like little cells dividing. Lol
I had another orchid bloom. Rhynchoestylis. I love the colors.
Have you kept lithops before??? They are neat, aren't they! Thank you! And that is a great description, haha. I'm a science nerd, so I love that imargery!

That orchid is stunning!!!! The very center looks like a little bird face, with two eyes and a beak. Very unique. And love the splotchy coloring!

Mine have a bit of red tinge on the stem, too. It looks more red in person. So the color may be normal?

W WillowMarie I have kept lithops before. I had them as part of my business inventory many years ago. They can be picky little plants so you are definitely doing a good job! I adore them. Watching them multiply is so cool. Once you have a pot full they really do look like living stones. They have neat patterns of striping and vary in color. Nature is awesome!
Glad you enjoyed the flowers. Orchids have purrsonality. Lol
