Speaking of Target, I was gifted the "I Wet My Plants" pot The mini orchid sits in it now.

Someone at work has a snake plant on his desk. It seems to do well in low light conditions.

That's what I've heard. I have a very high shelf where the cats can't go and it's near a window, but won't get any direct light because the shelf is higher than the top of the window is. Maybe I could let it live there and take it out for supervised sunbathing when the weather is good.

I now have a faux Monstera plant and two mini faux succulents, thanks to another Target trip Can't post pictures from phone so I'll get them posted later.

Trade Joe's has "shamrock" (oxalis) plants available: You’re In Luck: Trader Joe’s Is Selling Shamrock Plants for Under $5



Oxalis is toxic to pets so keep it well away from them.

The few available plants were sad looking so I didn't take any pictures. They're basically plants grown hydroponically in a clear container with a cork stopper to hold the plant above the water. At nearly $20 for a small plant in small bowl shaped planter? No thanks.

I moved my mini African Violet to work. I hope it does better there The hyacinth bulb was well past blooming so that got discarded. My mini orchid is doing surprisingly well despite not having any blooms. The rescued succulent is still growing out those teeny leaves. I can't wait for it to warm up more and visit the garden center when the indoor plant section has more to ogle I also need to take a trip downtown to the public market and see what one vendor has for plants. It's where I got my String of Buttons succulent from.

I saw a really bad "how to repot a succulent" video on Youtube The person basically had a succulent in a plastic pot and put the entire pot into a larger decorative cache pot and filled the empty space with pebbles and voila! A "repotted" succulent.

I was looking for videos on how to repot. The Mountain Crest Gardens one is really good. I like how the person explained the different soil types and grit types and what not to use. Bonsai Jack was highly recommended if one didn't want to make a mix from scratch. That's what I'm going to use when I repot my succulents sometime this Spring.

W WillowMarie any thoughts about fertilizers? I have Schulz Cacti / Succulent liquid fertilizer but not sure if that's good. Someone suggested the Miracle Gro succulent food but I have seen negative reviews of that.

That has been my experience with orchids. The plants are healthy with new leaves and roots but getting conditions just right for blooms is the trick. I know temperature is what triggers blooms and I think that is what is difficult. Indoors we don't have that drop in temperature that triggers blooming.

Interested in the negative reviews you read?? I use miracle gro for succulents in a liquid form. i've been happy. Only have used it a few times, but usually have some awesome offshoots and growth coming off after fertilizing.

The reviews are on the Miracle Gro product web site and also on Amazon. Some say the product killed their succulents or they got inconsistent amounts of liquid with one pump, the pump didn't work at all, etc. Not sure how much to trust the reviews. I'll stuck with my Schulz fertilizer.

My Bonsai Jack potting mix is arriving on Monday. I can repot the two succulents I have at home but the ones at work will have to wait until it's warmer so they don't get cold shocked on the way home and then back. My heart shaped Hoya is still in the original 2 inch plastic pot and there's a root sticking out of the bottom. Should I repot that into a slightly bigger pot?

Also will be repotting the pothos, pilea, and mini African Violet when it's warm enough to bring them home from work.

Ooo... look at these cute adjustable grow lights: Indoor Plant Grow Led Lights | Gardening Equipment I need one for work since my desk doesn't get a whole lot of light especially in winter. The mini AV could benefit from a grow light.

My potting mix arrived today and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I ordered a 6 gallon bag because I have a tendency to way overestimate how much stuff I need I thought I was getting a single 6 gallon bag. The product description didn't say otherwise. What came today was this:



Six one gallon bags I sent a picture and text to my team at work just for laughs and said if they wanted potting mix for their succulents, I had more than enough to share

I barely made a dent in one of the bags to re-pot my two succulents at home so I'm good with potting mix for life . I removed most of the original potting mix from the String of Buttons carefully and refilled the original plastic pot with the Bonsai Jack. I like the cache pot the String of Buttons sits in. The square pot in the bottom left corner is for one of my work succulents. Not sure which one yet. I have a smaller round pot for the other.

I did end up buying that cute grow lamp and a pair of micro tip pruning scissors. I'm only counting the grow lamp towards my desk personalization allotment money. The rest of the money will be used for more plants I wish it would warm up more so I can have plants shipped. I really want these:

I've done that before. I've had the same sack of potting mix in my shed for the past 3 years.

I rearranged my cacti shelf recently. I had to hide a lot of stuff while the kitten was in her break everything stage, but now that it's warm enough to go out in the enclosure she does most of her destruction outside.

Got myself a few new things too. This is some kind of snake plant.

I think this is called a Peperomia.

They were all in the $3 to $5 range, so not too extravagant.

I should have added a sample of Bonsai Jack orchid mix to my order My mini orchid is in potting a general potting mix (came that way from Trader Joe's) which is not good for orchids. A sample size bag is all I need for the teeny pot. Not a big deal to buy the smallest size bag (2 quarts). Or the variety pack of sample sized bags.

And I just saw that you can buy 3/4 cup sized bags of the succulent mix in a 1, 10, 20, and 40 packs Way cheaper and easier to store than my 6 gallon purchase. No idea how I missed seeing that option.

Do your cats leave the plants alone?

Yes, they don't pay much attention to them. They have a couple of pots of sacrificial cat grass to keep them happy. The only problem I have is that the spiky cacti collect a lot of cat fur. I have to carefully de-fuzz them with an old toothbrush and a darning needle.

That's kind of why I moved the mini African Violet to work. The fuzzy leaves was a magnet for Leroy's fur. I managed to get the fur off with a little brush.

I do need to grow Leroy some grass. I swear he's a cow in disguise because he loves that stuff

denice do you have any suggestions for orchid potting mix? I've gone down the rabbit hole looking up info on mixes online Way too many choices. I saw the American Orchid Society web site but haven't gone through that yet for general care info.

It was warm enough today to bring home a plant to re-pot. I'll bring another one home tomorrow and eventually get all the work plants re-potted.

More re-potted work plants:



I'm a little worried about having the pothos at home for the weekend because it's toxic to cats I have it on the top shelf of the plant cart away from anything Leroy can use to get the top. Both the roots of the Pothos and Jade were wrapped tight in circles around the original pot so it was definitely time to re-pot. I have the red / white / blue patterned pot in a bigger size too. Not sure what to put in that one yet. Whatever goes in will have to be a low light tolerant plant to either sit on my desk or on the north facing windowsill.

Three more plants to re-pot: the Pilea, the mini orchid, and the mini African Violet.

One of my friends gave me a new pot for my birthday in the shape of a log with fungi growing on it. Then another friend gave me the same pot in a different shape. Neither consulted the other.
At the moment they're just sitting on top of the freezer while I play around with ideas of what to put in them.
