I am just popping in to check if anyone has any recommendations for seasonal allergies in indoor cats. My cats are indoor and California weather is giving them seasonal allergies. My eldest cat was also reacting to Science Diet by Hills because she was having watery eyes, swollen lip and constantly itching. I took her to the vet she got a Depmedrol shot and has been fine since April, but I have found that days leading to their next Revolution dose, they are sort of itchy. I wonder if Revolution calms their seasonal itchies. Well I want to avoid constant Depo shots. The vet also gave Atopica, that one is expensive and I wanted to ask if there is something supplemental that can help/ manage. Vet is not so keen on long term management of Cetrizine, wonder why! I did read about Salmon Oil helping in times like this. IS there any medication I should ask the vet about? We did take my younger cat to the vet , clean ears and skin has no fleas and it was allergies :-/

Also they get Colostrum/ Lactoferrin (elder cat is allergic) and L-Lysine and a Quercetin supplement pill whenever I see watery eyes.

Thanks in Advance.

she is on grain free diet high protein fyi

You might look into Young Again food. They have a food that's good for allergy-prone kitties. If you're dealing with seasonal allergies, we've had the best luck with vacuuming more frequently and giving a daily antihistamine. Talk to your vet for the best option regarding an antihistamine.

Hi. If it is truly a seasonal allergy, theoretically an antihistamine (and that is what Cetrizine/Zyrtec is) could be used only when needed as opposed to daily, year round. Of course, it would have to be a test to see if it would accomplish your goal. I think there are some issues with using Atopica and cetrizine concurrently, so that is likely why your vet isn't keen on using it full time.

I don't think Revolution has any that would be considered anti-itch properties, although the majority of the ingredients are considered 'inactive' ones, and companies are not required to list them on their product labels, so they could be anything. It is advertised to help stop itching when related to ear mites, but that is because the mites themselves cause itchiness. If you get rid of mites, you get rid of the itchiness.
