My 1 year old cat has red scabs on her ear and hair loss around the spot. She's an indoor cat, activity level is usual and isn't scratching her ear. Does anyone know what this could be and how to treat it?

Hi and welcome to TCS! Are you sure she isn't scratching? Maybe while you aren't watching her? Hair loss and scabbing like that typically is from scratching because her ear(s) is/are itchy. If you are sure it is not fleas (being indoor only does not always preclude a cat from getting fleas), it could be allergy related - food and/or environmental. Any recent changes in food, litter, or any other items in the house (cleaning products, new flooring/furniture, etc.)? Unfortunately, cats can also become allergic to things they have eaten/been around for a long time.

Just one ear? How about what it looks like on the inside of the ear. Does she have excess wax or dirt in that ear?

Thank you for the response. She hasn't been scratching in front of us but could be here and there. Haven't noticed any fleas on her and no changes in anything (food/litter/new products in house/etc). It's just one ear and inside looked normal. Initially I thought it is a spider/bug bite or a ringworm but wasn't sure.
I will be calling vet for an appointment tomorrow to see what can be done.

Ringworm will likely spread. I'd say you might be on the right track with some sort of insect bite. But, how long has it been going on? If not long, it really should clear up on its own, unless she is having an allergic reaction to the bite. In that case, it might be a good idea to talk to the vet about it.
