We adopted Sangria from a rescue ten years ago. She's the sweet smooshy baby in my profile picture. We have three other smooshy cats, and we had recently just finished paying off a loan for $3,000 for nose surgery for one of them when we found out that Sangria was ill.

It started with stool outside of the litter box. We wanted to rule out anything medical, so we went to our usual vet. She found an abdominal lump on x-ray and referred us to a specialist hospital which is also the nearest vet hospital that does ultrasounds. We paid $1,000 for the ultrasound + specialist consultation.

Sangria has a large, vascular mass attached to her liver. Further imaging showed no spread, which is great news. The bad news is that the mass is causing anemia and could also rupture. The internal medicine specialist and surgical specialist both agreed that she is a great candidate for surgery. If it's cancer, it hasn't spread. If it isn't cancer, it still needs to be removed. Surgery will likely be curative.

We have scheduled her surgery for December 14 at the specialist hospital (Quebec). The cost estimate for the surgery and ICU stay is $5,800.

Having just paid off the other loan plus the $1,000 for ultrasound and consultation, we are now looking at going into even more debt. The surgery will happen, but we are hoping for some donations to help offset some of the costs.

Here is the Go Fund Me.The vet estimate is posted in the updates so that you can be assured this is real. Lobectomy for Sangria, organized by Angel Dionne

If you cannot donate, please share on your social media.

Thank you SO much

Hi
Don't feel guilty. That you are working to do the best by your cat is an incredible comment about you. Plus we're aware that vet bills are pretty nasty.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there's any organization in that list that will provide assistance for Canadian residents. I checked Best Friends and Alley Cat Allies websites, but again these seem to be focused in the US.

Would there be anything in Canada that we might not be aware of or able to access from here? I had a conversation with another Canadian member a couple of weeks ago and she seemed to indicate that the answer to that is no, however I'm not sure she has current knowledge.

Be sure you ask anyone you talk with at ANY of these places if they know of someone who could help you. It tends to be a network, and they may know of a program that none of us have ever heard of.
