Today is a sad day in our household.  Our sweet Ada kitty had to be put to sleep today.  She had stopped eating and drinking much, and had lost some weight within a span of probably three weeks.  We took her to the vet at the beginning, and the initial though was that she was constipated when the vet did his exam.  Blood work didn't show anything abnormal  He prescribed some laxative and an appetite stimulant, neither of which I could tell were really effective, although was using the litter box a little.  We also tried Miralax, along with syringe feeding during this time to keep some food in her.

It seemed she was starting to slowly get some of her strength back within the last couple of days with aid of syringe feeding.  She was starting to show those little behaviors like her loving headbutting, and snuggling my feet, which I loved seeing, that she wasn't able to do for days.  We decided it would be a good idea to take her to the vet this morning so she could get some IV hydration/nutrition, and an enima to clear her out.  While there It was discovered she actually had intestinal lymphoma that was fast moving, which was the reason she had stopped eating.  Some treatment options were mentioned, such as surgery in office, or sending her to a specialist to be treated.  The results would have been roughly the same, at about four extra months with her probably being miserable during that time, so it was decided to just let her cross over the rainbow bridge.

I'm sure she is now playing and romping with our past pets that have crossed the bridge.  We have her buried in a special little wooded alcove next to two other special kitties that we loved dearly. I know she's at peace, but I'm going to miss her little headbutts, purring, snuggles, and mews terribly.

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl. I'm sure she had quite the reception when she got to the bridge and I have no doubt that she misses you, too and loves you just as much as you love her.

These last couple of days have been pretty hard, which I know is a given, all things considered. I'm missing that cat very badly. I look in our little foyer where we kept Ada's crate in, and it's just an empty space now. She had this nightly habit when I would put her to bed for the night where she would hop off her crate and snuggle and follow me around and mew at me while I was getting her settled in for the night, which always amused me. It's little things like that and her other little habits that I talked about in my original post that I'll miss the most.

I would have loved many more years with her. I wish we would have known about the lymphoma sooner so, maybe It would have been caught in time. Cancer doesn't discriminate, it seems. [emoji]128533[/emoji] [emoji]128546[/emoji]

I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious Ada, the hole it leaves in our heart and the loneliness it brings to our house is almost unbearable at times. The pain needs time to become less sharp, but know in your heart you helped her when she needed you the most and you were there for her when her life became one of misery and confusion. It takes a long time to remember them with smiles instead of tears, the heavens gained a beautiful angel when she passed. She became a part of your household because you were a kind and loving person, I pray you are blessed for taking her in and giving her love and happiness, take care of yourself........ RIP beautiful Ada!

I am so sorry for your  loss of Ada.  I had a similar situation with my sweetheart Rizzo & although some people have had success with food changes, these did not work for us.  We used the usual meds & they worked for a couple years.  I like you would not put him thru any biopsies or chemo.  Too much for a little sick cat.  The point is that even when you know early there is only so much that can be done. If you think it would help read the "story of Rizzo" on this forum.    I think you made the right call for your baby. All you have to do is think about her & she will be by your side, basking in your love, even if you can't see her.   You are in my thoughts & I hope this brings you a little peace.

Before she lived inside, Ada sat on a kitchen window sill in all sorts of weather but was afraid of us. We started to feed her and tried to pet her.  This was probably about 6 years ago. The next winter a bitter cold front was moving in. We opened the door and she came in. She lived in a dog crate with the door open all the time by choice but has recently started to sleep on top. She definite was very loved.
