This is our beautiful Allie. She lived to the ripe young age of 20, even with kidney issues the last few years of her life. When we rescued her, we were told that she was a mix of Russian Blue and another breed....not sure which. But it was a rare combination and there was actually a breed name for her. She has been on my mind a lot lately, even though she crossed almost 10 years ago. She left an Allie-shaped hole in my heart. Based on her picture, can you tell us what you think we were told she was? A long time ago I had sent her picture to a US breeder of the type we were told. She told me that it is VERY rare and that was a perfect picture of that fairly new breed. Just curious. My old brain wants to remember, is all. Thanks.

This is most likely a Nebelung!
I had one. She lived to 18 years old.
If I'm not mistaken, Nebelungs are pretty new (think they were bred in the 80s??)
Here is a picture of my girl! Her name was Isabel. =) I remember one of the vets we had taken her to had never heard of the breed when I told her about it!

They look green to me! It's the same shade most of my cats (minus Charlie and Gracie) have. Gracie's eyes are SUPER blue.

YES! A nebelung. And you are right. She had the most beautiful green eyes. Isabel, too, is a beauty. There is something about these cats. Allie came when called and was a total lap baby. I miss her terribly.
They are very special! Isabel was also a lap cat!!
Out of curiosity, did you have problems with Allie's teeth?
Isabel started randomly using teeth around 4 years old with no medical reason behind it. I found out through reddit that a lot of people had similar issues! Or other teeth related ones.

We didn't have any problems with Allie's teeth. Are you brushing them daily? As much as I hate to do it (and now we have two rescue pups that get their teeth brushed daily), I think it's really, really important for them. Now sure if tooth issues are a nebelung 'thing,' though. Have you asked a breeder about that?
We did have a big issue with her kidneys, which I know is an issue for cats. For her last 4 years or so, we gave her lactated ringers ultimately every day, which really extended her life with no decrease in quality of her life. That's something that I would definitely watch out for, and learn how to give fluids if it turns out it could help. It actually turned into a bonding ritual for us.

Wasn't she? And I found her hairless with a broken tail at my local SPCA when I went to find myself a kitten. She was a mess. She had been there for about a week and nobody had claimed her. They told me she was not progressing in any way, shape, or form and since she was an older cat and there were so many kittens, they really couldn't keep her. In other words, she was going to be euthanized the NEXT DAY. I walked by her cage to look at the kittens and I didn't make it past. She put her paw out, and we looked at each other. I was smitten. The volunteer there was not very encouraging about her. When I said I wanted to see her and hold her, she basically told me that she was not adoptable and I should look at the kittens. I held my ground and she reluctantly let me hold her. She immediately started sucking my finger and I was hooked. Yes, she was a mess. Yes, she was hurt and scared. And yes, she picked me! I was so afraid that they were going to 'accidentally' euthanize her that I stayed until closing and was back before opening in the morning to come get her. She blossomed into the beauty that she was, but truthfully, she was beautiful from the start and was my blessing.
Yep! She had super healthy teeth, they just randomly fell out. The vet couldn't figure it out. It started around when she was four.
She passed away in 2021, though. She was 18! If I remember correctly she went into kidney failure, so I wish I knew that then, I would have given her all that stuff had I know. She lived a good long life though and other than the teeth issue, she was a relatively healthy cat! Though she hated being brushed -_- much to my dismay.
I found out on a reddit dedicated to the breed that a lot of people who have/or do own them that their nebelung had some form of a random issue with their teeth, was why I was curious! I'm glad yours didn't!! It was always concerning to me with Isabel. She HATED wet food, too. She'd gum dry food and get angry if I tried to soften it or give her wet food. Toward the end of her life though, she was more willing to eat Fancy Feast, though.
lactated ringer? interesting tip worth spreading! so you had to forcefeed of sorts? could she drink by herself? momma till our original resident; russian blue; had too problems with kudneys and drinking her last years. her owners got to manually give her water…
